Operation Phoenix Outdoors

Operation Phoenix Outdoors We are a veteran-run 501(c)(3) committed to serving military members, veterans, and first responders. Additionally, we bring youth on their first hunts.

By using the outdoors as a tool for connection and healing, we say thank you, strengthen mental health, and actively work to combat veteran su***de. "Our mission is to give back to our nation and community heroes by using the outdoors as therapy to create mental health breaks. We do this by bringing Military, Veterans, First Responders and their families on hunting and fishing trips to facilitate

fellowship, friendships, healing and hope. Our goal is to help ease the transition from military to civilian life, reduce stress, reconnect families, build friendship/healthy relationships, talk about alcohol dependency and broken families…ultimately enable conversation and relationships that help combat the 22 veteran su***des a day. We teach safety, ethical hunting, and the responsibilities of an outdoorsman or woman. Youth trips are built to strengthen bonds between heroes and their children or to be positive role models to at-risk youth/good kids in bad situations. Also, we break down barriers/physical limitations that prevent heroes from enjoying the outdoors. Finally, bring heroes on their last hunting/fishing trips “Bucket list trips” due to terminal illness…give them their last great memory of the outdoors."

Trip Report

It's been a few days but I needed the time to soak it up. As mentioned before we had the honor of hosting two veterans on an antelope hunt in NE New Mexico. The day before the hunt we were able to put some shot down range, scout the ranch, and make a plan for the following morning.

The picture on the left features Juan, a Vietnam vet that thought his hunting days were over more than 10 years ago due to health reasons. We were able to convince him we would be able to bring him out with high odds of harvesting an animal and at a bare minimum have a weekend with some great camaraderie. As you can see he was successful in the field and the smile says it all.

In the next photo is Danny, an Iraq War Veteran that never had the opportunity to hunt in the past. There was a little hesitancy when we presented the opportunity due to health reasons as well and the fact that he'd never hunted before. He was a trooper though and accepted the offer. About 30 minutes into the hunt he was able to get it done.

Congrats to both veterans on an OPO type of successful weekend. We are honored that we were able to host and hang out with you on this hunt. Danny, I hope we were able to make your first hunt to remember. Juan, if this truly is your last hunt we are honored to have been a part of it.

As always, a huge shout out to Don Schutz for continuing to help us with our mission. Your generosity continues to make a difference in the lives of our nation's heroes. Your support is greatly appreciated. It never seems like enough but thank you.

🚨Dove Hunt🚨

Opening weekend is upon us. Just like its big game, we scout, we search, and we prepare for the season. This year on opening weekend, Saturday Sep 5th we will be taking out two separate groups of 4 hunters each. Whether you’re new to bird hunting, or hunting in general. This opportunity is open to military, veterans, or first responders. Hunters will cover license fees and shotgun ammo. (If needed a limited amount of shotguns can be provided) We will meet at Lowe’s parking lot in Clovis NM at 6:30 and we’ll head out from there (transportation to the field provided if need be). Comment “let it fly” to enter. We will draw names on Wednesday Sept. 2nd.

This weekend, two veterans are heading into pronghorn country with Operation Phoenix Outdoors, but they’re coming from completely opposite ends of the hunting spectrum.
One will experience his first hunt ever. Everything will be new, from the early morning anticipation to spotting that first pronghorn across the prairie. The other has hunted his entire life, but reached a point where he thought those days were behind him and that he’d never hunt again.
Two veterans. Two completely different journeys. One shared experience.
That’s why we do this. The harvest is only a small part of the story. It’s about creating new memories, rediscovering old passions, building camaraderie, and giving our heroes a chance to feel that excitement again.
This weekend, one hunting story begins while another gets a new chapter.
