Thank you to WKYC Channel 3 Cleveland for hosting us this morning to spotlight Tails From The City. Cookie, our sweet 4 month old black & white kitten, was the star of the segment and held it down as her sister, Mallory, woke up with a wonky eye and wasn’t prepared for being on camera. Mallory offered her sister moral support from the sidelines, which wore her out. It’s hard work being so cute while being a warrior fighting FIP. 🐾

We are continuing to celebrate Clear The Shelters 2026 as we host an adoption event on Sunday, August 23 between 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Pet's General Store in Lakewood, Ohio!

Thanks to a grant from the ASPCA, adoption fees will be waived for our kitties during this event at Pet's. You must complete an adoption application to be an approved adopter, so we recommend completing an application on our website prior to arriving at our event, however we will have applications on-hand as well.

As our big 15th birthday is less than 2 months away, we want to share how it all began — because this story is worth telling.

In late 2011, a group of acquaintances got together to help 106 cats in desperate need. Without hesitation, they showed up.

With a hastily acquired shelter and a whole lot of heart, they got to work — and never stopped.

Since then, Tails From The City has placed over 5,000 animals in forever homes, cares for nearly 500 kitties every year, and built an incredible all-volunteer team that gives their time, their homes, and their hearts.

No-kill. Non-profit. All volunteer. All love.

This birthday isn't just ours — it belongs to every volunteer, every adopter, and every supporter who believes in our mission. That includes YOU.

We are happy to celebrate Clear The Shelters 2026 by starting the month with an Adoption event on Saturday, August 1 at PetSmart in Avon, OH. Come see some of our adorable cats & kittens between 1:00 - 3:00 pm, and you might even meet your new best friend!

As we prepare to celebrate our 15th year as a rescue, we have so many memories! Many of you have been there for a lot of them and we love our village of amazing supporters. However, none of them would be possible if we didn't start from the beginning - looking back at the memories with the true heart and soul of Tails......Mike Traut.

Mike was one of our founders and a past President, and everyone that knew about our small but mighty rescue between 2011 and 2016 would have known Mike. He spent so much time at the shelter getting to know the cats and the people. He lived, ate and breathed Tails. It's hard to imagine that so much time has passed, but 10 years ago this weekend was when Mike lost his battle with cancer.

Looking back through old photos, it's difficult to find many of Mike. He was the photographer with his camera close by at all times, and he loved taking pictures of Tails kitties. He would keep snapping the camera button until he found the one that he thought was purrrfect - and he was right every time. This post has a few of our favorites of Mike, a couple of the ones he took, and a picture of the rainbow over the shelter the day that he passed. He is never far from our hearts, and we know he is still with us by watching over us.
