😎 Summer fun + bleeding disorders CAN go together.

As families head into camps, vacations, sports, pool days, and outdoor adventures, a little preparation can help kids and teens stay active, confident, and safe all summer long.

Here are a few simple reminders for families living with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease (VWD), and other factor deficient bleeding disorders:
✔ Stay hydrated
✔ Wear protective gear
✔ Keep medications + supplies nearby
✔ Communicate with camps/coaches
✔ Watch for signs of bleeds or fatigue
✔ Check in with your care team when needed

Every child is different — and every family navigates summer in their own way. We hope these reminders help make the season feel a little easier, safer, and more fun. ☀️

Save this post for summer activities, travel days, and camp prep!

🧠💙 DID YOU KNOW?

Living with a rare or chronic condition can impact more than physical health — mental health matters, too. Research shows people living with rare diseases experience significantly higher rates of anxiety and depression compared to the general population.

At GOBDF, we believe caring for the bleeding disorders community means supporting the whole person — mind and body. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting services available to eligible members with factor deficient bleeding disorders throughout our 52-county service area in Ohio.

Programs & Support Include:
💙 Counseling Assistance
💙 Wellness Programs & Movement Activities
💙 Emergency Financial Assistance

From therapy support to wellness opportunities that encourage movement, confidence, and connection, these services are designed to help our community thrive.

Services are available to eligible members with a factor deficient bleeding disorder. Diagnosis confirmation through your HTC or healthcare team is required.

✨ Not a member yet? Membership is FREE.

There’s a lot of pressure to “handle everything,” especially when you’re caring for yourself or someone you love.

But no one is meant to do it alone.

It’s okay to ask for help.

That’s what community is for. 💛

This month’s Community Spotlight features Anne Goodman ❤️

Anne is a mother, advocate, Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, and member of the GOBDF community whose journey through diagnosis, caregiving, grief, and healing has helped support others navigating life with a bleeding disorder.

After years of searching for answers for her daughter’s unexplained symptoms, Anne and her daughter were both eventually diagnosed with bleeding disorders — a journey that deeply shaped her work in grief recovery and mental health advocacy.

During Mental Health Awareness Month and Mother’s Day season, Anne’s story is a powerful reminder that strength and vulnerability can exist together.

“Grief is not a problem to be fixed. It is a sign of love, of connection, of being deeply human.”

Thank you, Anne, for sharing your story and helping others feel less alone.
