“People don’t know these places exist unless you know people who have been there or you’ve been in the system,” she said.

Paitin still dreams of running.

Sometimes she wakes up and forgets she’s no longer locked inside a treatment center. Other days, she dreams of what life is like outside of Ohio and its expanse of cornfields. She remembers a time when she’d have to remind herself that she didn’t need permission to go outside. 🗞️

President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada 🇨🇦 is escalating as the midterm elections approach, threatening Republican efforts to address voters’ economic concerns in a year when control of the U.S. Senate hinges on states along the border between the United States and its northern neighbor.

The dispute flared over the weekend after negotiations broke down, leading Trump to raise tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian imports. The spiraling conflict could lead to higher prices and scrambled supply chains for Americans already aggravated at the president’s management of the economy. 🗞️

Kumar Arora is one of Cleveland’s civic champions – a seemingly tireless promoter with a portfolio of local investments as well as working relationships with LeBron James 🏀 and East Side-raised rapper Machine Gun Kelly 🎤

Arora’s collaboration with the Cleveland Browns 🏈 on their schedule release video marks a natural progression of his deep-rooted love for the North Coast. Through his creative marketing company, Underdogs, Arora nurtured a relationship between Cleveland’s gridiron institution and Japanese video game giant Capcom. The result is a “Street Fighter”-themed cinematic for the team’s upcoming season.

If you’re working tirelessly at creating the things you love to share or sell to others, Ghost Market co-founders Tess Pell and Anna Matisak have created a traveling space for aspiring vendors like you. 🛍️

“Ghost Market 👻 is special because it is run by vendors for vendors. It’s run by people who care about vendors and know what it takes to make sure an event is successful,” [Max] Mosser said. “We have all vended great events — and horrible ones — so we have experienced the highs and lows. We want to make sure a vendor isn’t going to risk their brand vending with us.” 🗞️

Community Journalist Tim Zaun had a sit down with THE Tim Misny to learn about the attorney's leadership style, legacy, and life. 🧐🗣

Tim Z 📝 "How do you respond to people who think you’re an arrogant, in-your-face, ambulance-chasing lawyer?"

Misny 🗣️ "It’s funny, because when something bad happens to them or their family, I suddenly become their best friend. And that tells you all you need to know. I’m not going to argue about who or what I am and try to justify it. I’m very content in my own skin. Am I a self-promoter? Hell yeah! And I’m not bashful about it.

I think I’m serving a purpose. I’m an advocate of the people and those I represent. I love my clients. Nobody from the country club is going to call me because many people in their network are lawyers. I represent people in a low economic stratum, people that have been chewed out by the system and never had any semblance of respect or encouragement given to them. I come in and give them that in truckloads and they’re overwhelmed. I wouldn’t change a thing." 🗞️

On Saturday, August 1, Justine Siegal once again made baseball ⚾ history when the Women's Pro Baseball League (WPBL) took the field for the first time. Siegal is the co-founder and first commissioner of the new league. She said the league is partially the result of her lifelong mission to break the barrier for women in professional baseball.

“There’s an appetite to watch baseball,” Siegal said of the various levels of America’s pastime. “The WPBL may be seen as somewhat of a novelty, but in the end it’s just baseball, and that’s what the fans are going to fall in love with.”

The inaugural eight-week season started in August and continues into September. The season features four teams: the WPBL Boston Hunters, the WPBL Los Angeles Queens, the WPBL New York Heights, and the WPBL San Francisco Firebells. 🗞️

A movie star, a filmmaker and a chemical dependency counselor are halfway through a multiday road trip around Ohio and things are starting to get a little goofy.

British actor Will Poulter, Ohio-born and Brooklyn-based writer-director Adam Meeks and Annette Deao, the program director of an adult recovery court in west-central Ohio, were close enough before, having made the indie film “Union County” just last year. But nothing is quite so bonding as spending hours upon hours together packed inside a Chevrolet Traverse as they bring their film, a raw but hopeful portrait of addiction and recovery, out nationwide Friday, to independent movie theaters across the state. 🗞️

President Donald Trump, speaking alongside cryptocurrency leaders at the White House this week, made a statement that Republican and Democratic candidates alike wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole.

“If I were the mayor of a town or the governor of a state, and I had a chance to get a big plant in, an AI plant or a data center,” Trump said, “I would absolutely want it because the jobs are enormous and the money paid, the taxes paid, are just enormous.”

It’s not the kind of message anyone is using in competitive midterm races. 🗞️

Data centers have become a contentious issue, with concerns about energy costs and environmental impact. In Ohio, Republican Jon Husted faces attacks over his support for data centers.

"On a steamy Monday night in 1916, G.H Fuller of Lake Avenue was disturbed by the sound of whistles drifting across the water of Lake Erie. According to an article in the Cleveland Leader two days later, Fuller alerted the U.S. Lifesaving Station, which sent a boat to investigate after it received two additional calls. In the ensuing hours, heroes were forged and lives lost in a frantic rescue attempt four miles from shore." 🗞️
