Mule deer are built for rugged country; sagebrush basins, rimrock, and mountain foothills. Their bodies are made for explosive power, clearing 7–8 feet vertically and bounding 20–30 feet in a single leap.
But fences can turn these strengths into risks. That’s why MDF works to remove and improve fencing so deer can move safely across the landscape. Learn more and support the work we do by becoming a member and contributing directly to these kinds of projects! https://muledeer.org/

The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) is among the first grant award recipients for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's (NFWF) Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative!

MDF has been awarded $4 million to help improve the health and resilience of grasslands and grazing lands on priority landscapes in the Great Plains. We thank NFWF, McDonald's USA, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and several McDonald’s USA beef and beverage suppliers for their financial contributions to the initiative that MDF will use to support our conservation efforts related to mule deer and wildlife habitat.

We’re excited for the launch of our newest chapter in Stillwater, Oklahoma! Nestled in the heart of the southern plains, this region is defined by prairies, Cross Timbers woodlands, river corridors, and working lands that support wildlife. With this kind of landscape, it makes sense the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) would conduct the Oklahoma Mule Deer Project here.
Big thanks to Regional Director, Marshall Johnson, Chapter Chair Tyce Honer, and Co-Chair Robert Calhoun (along with volunteers and community members) for their incredible efforts. We’re proud to grow the herd in Cowboy Country and look forward to the impact ahead in the Sooner State. To get involved with chapter or volunteer, reach out to Marshall Johnson at [email protected]

In an Outdoor Life article on the recent cougar culling project in Utah our Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) president and CEO provided a brief statement. MDF helped collar the deer who will be tracked and monitored as part of this project. Currently, we are supporting this study in hopes it provides key insights into mule deer populations, so we can work on habitat solutions to improve mule deer numbers in Utah and across the West. Habitat health is our top priority, but we recognize that in some instances predator management can play a valuable role in achieving better outcomes for wildlife.
