Who was the first "blonde" president?
Not many people would know the answer to this question. Why not? Because most people do not consider the natural pigment in someone's hair to be of any significance to a person's worth or capability. Why would anyone believe differently about the pigment in someone's skin?
We cannot be "blind" to the impact racism has had on our brothers and sisters with darker skin in the United States. But ultimately, collectively, we have to become as uninterested in skin color as we are in hair color. While we will never be "blind" to hair color, like we will never be "blind" to skin color, we have to get to the point where it just doesn't matter anymore.
A person's worth, capability, or character have nothing to do with the color of their skin. People...this isn't complicated.
We share the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
Let us know if you share that dream as well!
