Our friend, Anissa, who runs Mother Clucker's Microsanctuary, is still in the hospital, following emergency heart surgery on May 12. She is so much better and hopes to be home soon. Even with insurance, this will be a significant expense. If you would like to donate, no amount is too small and will be very appreciated.

The rat snakes are always welcome here.❤️ We happened upon this mating pair today. Please be kind to snakes. They mean you no harm, they are an important part of the ecosystem, and are free rodent control.

This is the best crop of beet greens we've had in many years. We're guessing it's due to the unusually cold winter, which reduced the number of insects. The humans get the beets and carrots, while the chickens enjoy the carrot greens and most of the beet greens.

These two things should always go together: 1) a dead mama opossum who has living babies in her pouch, and 2) car keys. Please get injured or orphaned wildlife to a licensed rehabber as soon as you can. Please don't give food or water, as it can be fatal.

Go in your pajamas and with bed-head. And please, if you are able, give them a cash donation. If they are rehabbing out of their home, you can bet they are doing it all out-of-pocket.

Look at this tiny paw. The rehabber pulled 4 boys and 3 girls from her pouch this morning (I was afraid of injuring them if I tried to do it). All were alive and looking strong, and I hope they make it.

Two weeks ago today, we said goodbye to our wonderful old girl, Shack. Sanctuary donations go directly toward the care of the chickens, while the dogs' expenses are paid from Jim and Kay's personal funds. Nevertheless, the dogs are a huge part of our family and the Sanctuary. Like the chickens, they are all rescues. We adopted Shack in January 2013 and she was estimated to be about two years old at that time. In her early years here, she liked to pick fights, but she mellowed with age. She's pictured here with Ace, who showed great concern for her over the past few months. We're extremely grateful to our vet, who made a house call for this, so that Shack could pass at home. We are also grateful for the rescue group who saved her. It's never easy to let them go, but we're grateful that she had a long life. Find the dog(s) of your dreams through a rescue group or a shelter.
