Formed as a Downtown Parking and Business Improvement Area (DPBIA), the City of Chico assesses an additional fee on business licenses granted within the district boundaries (per Chico Municipal Code 3.34.010 – 3.34.140). Those funds are distributed to the DCBA, a nonprofit organization that has contracted with the City of Chico and is mandated to use the funds for one or more of the following purp

oses (CDC 3.34.090):
1.The acquisition, construction or maintenance of parking facilities for the benefit of the area;
2.Decoration of any public place in the area;
3.Promotion of public events which are to take place on or in public places in the area;
4.Furnishing of music in any public place in the area;
5.The general promotion of retail trade activities in the area

Some businesses are built from scratch. Others become caretakers of something people already love. 🍕💛

This week, we're featuring Main Street Pizza , a downtown favorite that has been serving slices, memories, and late-night cravings for years.

When owner Chris Durkin took over the shop in late 2025, his goal wasn't to change what made Main Street Pizza special. It was to protect it, strengthen it, and build on the foundation that generations of Chico locals had already come to know and love.

With more than 20 years of restaurant experience, Chris has spent the last several months working behind the scenes to improve systems, expand offerings, extend hours, launch delivery, and introduce new menu items like Detroit-style pizza—all while keeping the heart of Main Street Pizza intact.

What we love most about this story is that it reflects something we see throughout Downtown Chico: people investing in places they believe in. Not because it's easy, but because they care about the community they're serving.

As Chris puts it, being downtown means being part of the community, not just operating a business. And that's exactly the kind of spirit that helps downtown thrive!

So whether you're stopping in for a quick slice, grabbing lunch with friends, or fueling up after a Downtown Chico event, Main Street Pizza is ready to welcome you.

If you’re still looking for a gift, a dinner plan, or a reason to get the family out together, tonight’s Thursday Night Market is a pretty good place to start.

It’s a hot one, Chico!

Thursday Night Market is still on tonight from 6–9 pm, but with the heat, the market may look a little different than usual. Some vendors may adjust their setup or sit this week out for safety, and we fully support everyone making the best call for themselves, their staff, and their products.

If you’re heading downtown tonight, here are a few ways to make the most of the evening:

☀️ Bring water and stay hydrated
☀️ Come a little later when the evening cools down
☀️ Shop early if there’s a vendor you’re excited to support
☀️ Grab dinner or a cold drink from a downtown business
