We are the local representation of the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention, www.afsp.org. Su***de, a worldwide epidemic of staggering proportions, touches our community deeply. Join hundreds as we come "out of the darkness" to raise awareness about depression, mental illness, and su***de; while strengthening ties within our caring community of Chico. Chico's Out of the Darkness Community Wa
lk is a brief 2-3 mile energizing community walk in downtown, starting and ending at the Plaza. Over 120,000 join in over 300 walks throughout the country. This years, on September 27, 2014, coincides with approximately thirty others. So we'll be walking along with thousands across the country that day. In October 2010 Chico hosted its first annual walk. It was a huge success, in terms of participants, discussions and collaborating events leading up to the brisk morning walk thru lower Chico's lower Bidwell park. Participation and dollars raised translates into saving lives. Money benefits the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP) -- vital research, outreach and educational programs, and supportive forums for those who've lost loved ones to su***de. Contribute to this powerfully inspiring event. Join us on the walk, donate what you can (every dollar counts), volunteer in any capacity. Local businesses, too, are most welcome. We applaud enthusiastically for teams. It's a truly invigorating experience. We are truly appreciative of volunteers and donors; we can't do this work without you.
