Since 1986 Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County has been training everyday people to stand up for children who have experienced abuse and neglect in an overwhelmed and extremely under-resourced foster care system. Without a helping hand from CASA of Cook County volunteer advocates, these children may fall through the cracks and never be given an opportunity to find a place to call home.

Keisha enrolled in C.I.T.Y.'s five-week "How to Secure the Bag" Career Development Boot Camp, where she developed workplace skills, built confidence, and began to believe that her story did not have to end where it began.

Soon afterward, she earned a paid summer internship with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)her first opportunity to see herself not just surviving but thriving. 💫

That experience changed everything.
Today, Keisha proudly says:
"C.I.T.Y. showed me that I have a future and stood beside me every step of the way."

This fall, Keisha will begin the next chapter of her journey at Eastern Illinois University.
