Rizal Center

The Rizal Center, owned by the nonprofit organization Filipino American Council of Greater Chicago (FACGC), is located in Chicago.

A hub for enriching & strengthening our diverse communities, fostering collaboration through the Bayanihan spirit in action. The Rizal Community Center, under the aegis of the Filipino American Council of Greater Chicago, is more than a building. It's a revitalized way of thinking about who we are and how we engage with our communities. It is a welcoming, dynamic place for people of all backgrounds who support the FACGC's mission and purposes. In the conduct of all aspects of its activities, the FACGC shall not discriminate on the grounds of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, s*x, s*xual orientation, gender expression, age, height, weight, physical or mental ability, veteran status, military obligations, and marital status.

This August at Pamana Library Corner, we are pleased to feature The Twin Mermaids of the Island Moon by Filipina author Marilou Urbi. Rooted in Filipino values of family, kindness, and community, this beautifully written story introduces young readers to a magical world where emotions, courage, and compassion are just as important as adventure.

Inspired by her own life, cultural heritage, and journey as a mother, Marilou created the Island Moon Universe to help children understand their feelings, build confidence, and find comfort in the people who love them. Through the bond of two mermaid sisters, the story gently reminds children that kindness is a strength, family is a source of comfort, and every child carries a light within.

Pamana Children’s Library invites families to discover The Twin Mermaids of the Island Moon and enjoy a story that celebrates Filipino storytelling while encouraging meaningful conversations about emotions, friendship, and growing up with courage and hope.
