Weather PSA: As many are interested in the weather early Sunday ,including me , putting the 'forecast' out there a little earlier . Sunday ( 10/11)..The threat of rain , and even sprinkles from the leftover hurricane has vanished . It will be mostly cloudy , temp around 60 degrees for the start of the Marathon ( 7-8 AM) with light E/SE winds . The clouds will thin out and the temperature will hit 70 degrees around 10 -11 AM. Not ideal temps , but probably no 'yellow heat alerts' until later in the race, if at all. Later Sunday should clear out , setting the table for a nice Fall warm-up for Monday . Monday will be a great day for outdoor activities , and Tuesday not much different . An Autumn 'heat wave' of sorts , but 'heat' hits differently in October . We'll have low humidity, and an October sun angle that won't cook one to a crisp . It will cool off quickly once the sun sets ..at ..6:20. Possible Thundershowers Tuesday night as the cold front that brings us back to Autumn temps and skies gets to work . Good Luck to all Race Runners !!

Weather PSA: For a change , some variety to our weather for the next 5 days , and many are interested in Sunday , so ..let's get to it . Today ( Thursday) , our last cool/sunny/dry day for the period , Highs in the 60s , no rain , low humidity ..so far, so good . Friday brings the first change to the delightful Fall pattern in the form of a warm front that will pass through . This could bring a few showers and maybe even a thundershower or two as the day progresses . Our first rain in a while ..not too much, though. Saturday will start much warmer than we've seen , reaching maybe 80 degrees with a bit more humidity . We'll start seeing the first cast-off clouds from Hurricane Isais laster in the day . Sunday ..the remnant of the Hurricane is tracked to pass far enough to the Southeast to maybe trigger some showers SE of Chicago in the morning . For the marathon start ,expect clouds and light easterly winds , and the clouds should keep the temperature down for most of the race . The heat and sunshine from Saturday shouldn't be an issue . We'll stay a little warmer than normal until mid next week , when we get the cooler weather back. Enjoy !!! Good luck to the runners , and a good time for the cheerers !!

Weather PSA: The run of Nearly Perfect Fall Weather continues for the next week . From now ( Sunday , 10/4) through the entire week, we'll have almost total sunshine during the day , low humidity , and clear and cool to chilly overnights . We get the Lake to keep the truly chilly temps staying to our west , so no peril to the plants yet . Looking ahead a week to Marathon weekend - race conditions should be dry , maybe a tad warm during the height of the race . This is a great run of great weather which should be enjoyed - it will be less likely in a month or so when we hit cold and gray , even in an El Nino year , so ...

Weather PSA: For the first 5 days of October , we'll start with one wet, gray day . Today ( Thursday) will have showers , periods of heavy rain, and light to dark gray skies . Kind of warm and muggy until , sometime in the wee hours of early Friday AM, the cold front will prevail ,and set the stage for a 5-day run of perfect Fall weather . Friday could start a little cloudy , but that will give way to more sunshine . Dry with no rain and lowering humidity with our high and low temps where they should be for early October . This will continue through the weekend and into next week . Enjoy some of the best weather we get during the year . The lower humidity and sunlight gives quickly warming mornings and quick cooldowns after sunset . The lake is still warm, so we shouldn't see the 40s overnight ..yet . We can also get the 'Michigan Rockies' in the AM if you look east early in the morning . October usually brings more than a few days of great weather early through mid -month , when we'll start seeing some 'November preview' weather more frequently , so .. enjoy !!

Weather PSA: Finally , a weekend that over-performed as far as bringing perfect early Fall Weather . That will continue through Tuesday . Today ( Sunday 9/27) , mostly sunny , dry skies and low humidity .High temp in the low 70s, and overnight lows moderated to the high 50s/low 60s for us . Monday and Tuesday , expect the same, maybe a bit warmer . We get a change mid-week thanks to a system fed partially by the end of Hurricane Polo . We'll get showers , rain , more humidity , and some wind with the system... Fall storms typically track north , so this is a weather oddity. Most of our 'hurricane hangovers' come from the Gulf , not the southwest . Rain and showers will be ending Thursday and early Friday . Enjoy the great Fall weather while we have it :)

Weather PSA: Early Fall has decided to stay for awhile . For the next few days , same forecast . Mostly to Partly Cloudy skies , seasonably, slightly cool high temps in the 60s , with a gradual warming trend back to our 'normal' high temps in the low 70s early next week . Dry , too. The clouds and our proximity to the lake is moderating the overnight temps , so plant parents don't need to worry about the outdoor growing yet . 90 degree temps - a record rarity , 80s ...infrequent .. 70s are the new 'warm' for the next few weeks, when this scale will then move downward . Meanwhile ... enjoy !!!

Astronomical PSA: Happy Autumnal Equinox to all celebrating. Sunrise due East , Sunset Due West , and just about 12 hours of daylight and darkness .. Added ... we have and will have Autumn -appropriate weather through the next week , at least .. for those patiently waiting

Weather PSA: The Autumnal Equinox will be Tuesday 9/22 , and we'll be in our first week with a continuous 'Fall Feel' . The coolest high/low temps since Early May for most of the week, with the showery, cloudy Sunday to partly cloudy and much brighter skies by mid-week. For Sunday ( 9/20),the steady rain has given way to more sporadic showers , a low gray sky , and temps staying in the 60s. Drier and a bit brighter by Monday , temps mid 60s to high 50s overnight . Same for Tuesday , but a bit cooler . Wednesday , stays cool , a bit brighter skies . Light layer mornings for us , as the Lake will keep the chillier 40s in the 'burbs this time . We should return to more seasonal temperatures for the end of the week , but it's late September , so that means high temps in the low 70s . We're not quite at frost on the pumpkins yet , but Summer reminders will be fewer , and farther apart ..

Weather PSA: We're still on the trench line in the battle between the hot and humid air to our south and the cooler, drier air to our north . Today ( Thursday , 9/17), the rain and showers end by early afternoon , so we'll dry out and hang out in the cooler air for the rest of the day , tonight , and through Friday . We'll actually get some peeks of sunshine . The cooler temps are actually close to our seasonal norms for Mid - September , which means highs in the low 70s , lows in the low 60s . Saturday , the battle resumes with more rain , a chance of thunderstorms , and kind or dreary . Sunday - a little less rain , but still mostly cloudy . Keep the rain gear handy for the weekend . Forecast shows us going to cooler temps and cloudy to start next week . One of the non-marketed features of Autumn is some days with a uniformly gray sky and very little rain - we'll see more of those days as cool air starts to become more permanent ..

Weather PSA: For Sunday ( 9/13), we're starting with cooler and drier air thanks to a cold front that passed through and ended yesterday's return to Summer . A dry and bright start , but clouds and showers will move in for a short while Sunday afternoon with some reinforcing cooler air . Temps toward sunset will fall into the lower to mid 60s. Monday AM might be a jacket or sweater morning for some - we'll be the high 50s to low 60s , and this will be our first 40s overnight for the far 'burbs . Monday day , breezy , cool , high around 70 , and dry . Warmer and wetter air will try to fight its way back Tuesday -mid 70s , some rain and thundershowers . Wednesday will be mostly the same , but the cooler air will be around for the end of the week. The transition to more Autumn has started , as expected ,so expect variations in daily temps ,and cooler air brings lower clouds that linger ..
