Weather PSA: 6/17 12:45 PM Update .. There won't be a lull/part 1/part 2. Instead , the weather for the rest of the afternoon will be annoying (to most) and interesting (to a few) . The rain will continue through the afternoon ..light to heavy . Still a chance of a thunderstorm , but it's chilly , so not much heat . The wind will mellow out a bit . We experienced a 'wake low' , which is a highly -wound small low pressure system that followed the morning 'push' that brought the higher winds earlier . Still a wind advisory in place . Umbrellas will be eaten , so .. The severe weather remains south of the Chicago area , but it will be a wet afternoon until around 6 PM ..stay dry !!

Weather PSA: Wednesday 6/17 , 9:30 am. The severe weather for 'round 1' is staying south of Chicago .The gnarly squall line, with severe thunderstorms and high wind is barreling through Central Illinois . We'll get mostly cool rain for the next few hours , light to heavy showers and perhaps a thundershower . The forecasters are still watching the setup for a warm front that would drive Severe weather our way later this afternoon , but that currently appears to also be staying south of us . More on that as the forecast refines . Stay dry this morning , stay weather aware today , but the probability of drama has decreased for now ..

Weather PSA: For Wednesday ( 6/17). We'll have a weather day similar to last Thursday with the timing of potentially severe thunderstorms. Round 1 will be a mid to late morning event for us with wind, rain , thunder, lightning , maybe some hail. The severity 'trigger' for this round will be the wind . We get an afternoon lull , see the sun , feel warm wind, get errands run . Round 2 will be a later afternoon/evening event . The strength of these will be somewhat dependent on how strong the morning storms were, and how much warm , humid air remains . About Tornados - NWS will be watching carefully ,but the current forecast models suggest this activity stays south of the Chicago Metro area . This could change , so tomorrow is a weather -aware day . The all clear for tomorrow around 10 PM, then the good stuff returns for a few days . Stay dry , grounded, safe , and aware !

Weather PSA: Sunday (6/14) starts with the end of the rain showers in the wake of the cold front that passed through earlier . We'll be about 10 degrees below average, and some might say 'chilly' until the sun reappears around noon . High in the low 70s . Monday will start the week a bit warmer , decent humidity , and the high temp heading back to closer to normal ..75 and dry . Tuesday starts the attempted return of humid and more unstable air , so we can expect thunderstorms later , and Wednesday is the weather alert day for the week . For the end of the week , and the upcoming very busy outdoor weekend, the current forecasts are showing very good to great weather . June being June ...

Weather PSA: The severe weather, heat , and humidity we’ve experienced during the past week has moved on . Today ( Friday) wil be an almost perfect Summer day, with low humidity and clear skies. The dew point has dropped 15 degrees to 57 , our high temp will be around 80. Saturday will be comfortable and a bit warmer, and we’ll have a reinforcing shot of cool , smoke-free Canadian air via a passing cold front. We might get a weak thundershower and some rain , but nothing severe. Sunday will cooler than average - low 70s for high temps . We’ll gradually return to more Summery weather by mid-next-week. Enjoy !

Weather Info : A question was raised re why we received the emergency Tornado Warning EAS message on phones , but no sirens .. The EAS Tornado Warning are triggered by the National Weather Service . The system was set up a few years ago to trigger the overriding Government Alerts for specific life-threatening weather alerts .. We received the Tornado and Severe- Severe Thunderstorm alerts because of multiple rotating cells that were tracked to pass within a few miles of us- close enough for NWS to issue a wider warning in major Metro area . These also produced on-the-ground winds of 80+ MPH . The sirens are controlled by OEMC/City of Chicago and they will localize blasting or not . We would have heard these if the clusters were a bit closer . The Sirens are also not designed to pe*****te every interior structure .. Listen for both , and act accordingly :)

Weather PSA: NWS has cleared all warning for the City of Chicago .. that was a fun half hour !! The Tornado Warning was generated from some large rotation that started in Oak Lawn and quickly moved NE .. there was also 70 MPH + straight line winds . Rain for about another hour or so , and still some lightning ,but 99% of you will like the weather for the next 5 days .. spoiler alert - NONE of this !! ..and less humid ...and ..tune in tomorrow :)

Weather PSA: 6/11 8:10 PM Update . The main line of storms is 15-20 minutes away . Unfortunately , this has generated Tornado Warnings in Dupage and parts of Cook County , so be very aware in the next 30 minutes to 1 hour . If your phone pops an Alert , or you hear the sirens , get to your safe place . There will also be heavy rains , wind , etc . You should be indoors starting now .
Once this line has passed , the cooler and drier air starts flowing in . Stay Safe .

Weather PSA 6/11 7;25 PM update - The main squall line is about an hour away ,so we're in a 'lull' - not to take the guard down , but currently just wind and a few raindrops . I suspect we'll get a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in a while . The tornado activity is currently staying south of us in the far south 'burbs and Northwest Indiana , BUT , NWS hasn't lifted the watch , and they will 'watch' rotation like a hawk as the bigger squalls move into 'Chicagoland' . Stay aware ..

06/11/2026

Weather PSA: 6 PM , 6/11 .. The band of storms has come together and moving our way - currently in the far 'burbs , but arrival here is about an hour to 90 minutes - time to start paying serious attention to all weather alerts . There are already tornados on the ground south of I-80 . The meteorologists are following this carefully , and Tom Skilling is out of retirement and in the rotation on Channel 9 for a sign of how seriously they're taking this. Secure your balcony items if you didn't last night , check your safe place .. if you're in a high or mid-rise , your fire exit stairwell is a great alternative . Stay Safe - More here when the big clusters get closer ..
