The Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation was formed in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) organization to support the efforts of those working to preserve the Greek language and culture. In 2016, the Foundation began developing initiatives to assist Greek language educators with what we view as the essential task of integrating technology into modern Greek curricula. Beginning in 2016, several schools sought

financial assistance for materials and supplies to maintain their Greek school programs. The foundation has since granted more than $200,000 to help 12 Greek schools in the Chicagoland area.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Sianis, longtime owner of the iconic Billy Goat Tavern and a beloved member of the community.

The Chicago Greektown Educational Foundation sends our sincere condolences to our board member Paul Sianis and the entire Sianis family during this difficult time.

Sam’s presence and legacy were woven into the fabric of Chicago for decades, and he will be deeply missed by many.
