C*CF Sailing School and Sailing Education Scholarships help Chicago-area youth further their sailing development — from local sailing school programs to US Sailing instructor certifications. Funds are allocated based on demonstrated financial need.

This summer, C*CF is awarding more than $100,000 in scholarships! Together, we are building a true pipeline in sailing education and bringing new faces into the sport we love! 💙

This month we are sharing stories from a summer in full swing: Horizons for Youth aboard Whitehawk, more than 70 youth receiving scholarship support from C*CF to attend sailing schools across Chicagoland, and a shout out to our board members on strong finishes at the C*C Race to Mackinac! 📸 Chicago Yacht Club.

Every kid in Chicago deserves a chance to experience Lake Michigan. These sailors from Galileo Scholastic Academy are doing exactly that — back for Level 2 at Monroe Station, and their confidence on the water shows!

Nine girls from Rickover Naval Academy and Girls Inc. spent four days and nights aboard the tall ship Inland Seas earlier this summer, sailing from Charlevoix to Traverse City, Michigan.

The voyage is part of C*CF’s longtime partnership with Inland Seas Education Association.

They came from different schools and different neighborhoods, and left as one crew.

Along the way, they learned to set sails, coil line, and make real decisions as a crew, while studying plankton and invasive species like round gobies and zebra mussels.

It’s leadership training that happens to take place on open water.

That’s a wrap on Sailapalooza, presented by ! Four days, five boats, 35 girls from Girls in the Game, and a whole lot of time out on Lake Michigan!

They sailed, they swam, they had so much fun! This is exactly why we do what we do: getting more of Chicago’s kids on the water, close to the neighborhoods they call home!

“I love how peaceful it is on the water. I see the sun sparkling in the waves,” said Laniya W. “It’s so amazing! It’s my first time ever!”

Sailapalooza is here, presented by Wintrust!

This week, 35 girls from Girls in the Game are with us at 31st Street Harbor for four days of sailing on Lake Michigan and swimming!

We believe the lake belongs to every kid in this city — and this week, we get to bring it a little closer to home. And here’s what makes 31st Street so cool: the girls sail on Lake Michigan and swim in the pool, all in the same day!
