Destiny Outreach Destiny Outreach® (DO!) is an educational 501(c)3 charitable organization founded on February 14, 1997 by creative visionary, Danita E. Patterson.

Destiny Outreach's (DO!) mission is to empower, inspire and equip diverse teens (ages 13-17), young adults (18-35) and people with navigational tools in an engaging edutainment environment to achieve their ultimate potential in life, school and work. Destiny Outreach's exposes Dreamers to the proven "Dream & Destiny®" Curriculum, Workshops & Events and career exposure, shadowing and immersions in

the Entertainment, Technology and Business industries. The study of dream-building and purpose indicates that dreams can empower ordinary people to do extraordinary things beyond their present circumstances (i.e., economic hardships, cultural barriers, handicaps, environmental pressures, etc.). Destiny Outreach believes cultivating a dream births vision and purpose, and ultimately destiny. Targeting (1) educational systems, (2) community organizations, and (3) faith-based communities, DO! has developed ground-breaking programs, curriculum and events by building a “dream consciousness” that raises esteem, encourages achievement, and motivates success in the lives of teens, young adults and their families. Destiny Outreach’s Dreams & Destiny® Campaign is an outreach program for a multi-cultural pool of teens and millennials (ages 12-17 and 18-35) with diverse economic backgrounds. Each program is intricately designed to help stir up the ability to dream and realize ultimate personal potential. Utilizing mentorship, intergenerational sharing, and life-skills building, we empower ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Through Destiny Outreach, Sam gained invaluable insight from seasoned industry professionals who are actively shaping the future of film and television. From hands-on camera training and technical education to learning the importance of presence, professionalism, and work ethic, every experience contributed to his growth as a creative and emerging industry leader.

As the rise of Midwest Hollywood creates new pathways for storytellers, Sam recognizes that self-direction, initiative, and a willingness to create opportunities are essential. Destiny Outreach helped him strengthen those qualities while providing the guidance, exposure, and confidence needed to navigate an industry with no single roadmap.

Equally impactful was the journey alongside his fellow apprentices. Through collaboration, shared experiences, and community, Sam regained a renewed sense of focus and clarity about his future, his career, and his purpose.

His story is a testament to the power of preparation, mentorship, and believing in what is possible before the opportunity arrives.

At Mirror Ball Recordings, mentorship has become a two-way exchange of knowledge, creativity, and growth.

Grammy-nominated DJ, producer, and remixer , alongside Grammy-nominated producer and mix engineer Eric Welton, welcomed Destiny Outreach apprentices Alexus Womack and Jaden Madison into their creative ecosystem. What began as an opportunity to mentor quickly evolved into a collaborative experience where both generations learned from one another.

Eric shared that one of the most valuable contributions Alexus and Jaden brought was their fresh perspective on content creation and digital marketing, offering insights into the ever-evolving landscape shaped by Gen Z. Terry echoed that sentiment, recalling how he learned new video editing techniques and graphic trends from the apprentices on their very first day.

Reflecting on his own journey, Terry emphasized that success accelerated when he surrounded himself with knowledgeable people who brought expertise in areas beyond his own. He recognizes the importance of building strong teams and believes Alexus and Jaden arrived with the skills, passion, and drive needed to make an immediate impact.

Both Terry and Eric expressed that a program like Destiny Outreach would have been transformative early in their careers, providing resources, opportunities, and access that could have accelerated their professional paths. Their commitment to Alexus and Jaden extends beyond the apprenticeship, as they remain invested in supporting their continued growth and success.

This partnership is a testament to the power of mentorship, collaboration, and creating pathways to destiny.

Apprentice Jaden Madison came into Destiny Outreach with a film school background, but the experience expanded his understanding of what it truly takes to succeed in the industry. Through the training, he learned the importance of building professional relationships, bringing value to every opportunity, and becoming an asset to any team he joins.

During his placement at Mirrorball, Jaden explored multiple roles across production, helping him discover both what he enjoys and what he ultimately wants to pursue professionally. The experience gave him clarity and confidence in his career path.

Jaden credits his mentor, Eric, for helping him embrace the learning process. Although some responsibilities were unfamiliar, Eric reminded him that his existing skills already brought value and that growth comes from being honest about where you are while remaining committed to improving. Through patience, guidance, and encouragement, Jaden learned to trust himself and his abilities.

As someone who once felt uncertain about pursuing a film career in the Midwest, Jaden now sees endless possibilities. At Mirrorball, he has found a space where he can combine his passion for music and film while gaining real-world industry experience.

One of the most impactful moments of the Destiny Outreach Dreams & Destiny apprenticeship program was participating in the one-day film set production.
“I learned a lot about myself doing that.”

The experience reinforced the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and respecting different perspectives. Today, Jaden says he is more confident, more content, and more certain than ever about where he is headed and the value he brings along the way.

Caption: Destiny Outreach Apprentice Alexus shares that the training prepared her to become the best version of herself through professionalism, timeliness, gratitude, and the power of building genuine connections.

Her placement at Mirrorball provided hands on experience within the music and creative industries, exposing her to music supervision, production, budgeting, content creation, and content management. Through programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Creative Cloud, Alexus strengthened her technical abilities and sharpened skills she once felt needed improvement.

With the support and guidance of her supervisor Eric, she was able to overcome challenges, expand her creative thinking, and gain confidence in bringing concepts to life. What once felt unfamiliar became an opportunity for growth.

One of the most meaningful parts of the experience was the community built among the apprentices. Through workshops, collaboration, and shared experiences, they encouraged one another, formed lasting connections, and grew together.

Alexus is especially grateful for her placement at Mirrorball because music supervision has always been a passion of hers. She thanks Founder Danita Patterson for listening to her interests and creating a pathway that aligned with her goals.

The trail that the historic and culture building WVON has had on Chicago and the black community at large has been blazing for over 50 years. Now, thanks to sacrifices of those before, Destiny Outreach was able to place three of our stellar apprentices at WVON to have their minds and skills enriched by the energy and history around them.

After having our apprentices share their experience, we were lucky to be able to speak with key staff members at the station, and hear from them in their own words how beneficial our apprentices have been for the station.

Thank you Atiba Buchanan, LaDonna Raeh, Lorie Smith, and Titus Williams for giving our apprentices a safe space to learn, create and grow. And thank you, for all your work has and continues to do for our community.

In honor of the anniversary of what started it all, look back with us and celebrate the young visionaries and filmmakers who made up our first Cohort!

While we have celebrated the numerous achievements Destiny Outreach has accomplished in its inaugural year, it’s important to reflect back and honor what started it all.

Transformation is the goal of our program, and while these young creators may no longer be the version of themselves that first stepped into the Destiny Outreach family, you can not truly appreciate who you have become until you reflect back on who you have been.

To everyone who has continued to support us from day one up to now, thank you for being our Dream Keepers and supporting our mission of growing the young creators around us.

Destiny Outreach Apprentice Darius Donald has truly blossomed during his placement at WVON — a space deeply woven into both his purpose and his family’s history. With both his uncle and sister connected to WVON, radio has always been a powerful force in his life.

Through the vision, leadership, and intentional training curated by Danita Patterson, Darius says he has learned professionalism on an entirely new level while discovering the true impact of storytelling, journalism, and representation.

“WVON has been the backbone and the voice of Black people in Chicago and it’s still building and rising. WVON is the definition of legacy.”

To now walk the same halls where Barack Obama once interned and to have the opportunity to capture moments as historic as the funeral of Jesse Jackson Jr. attended by President Obama himself was a full circle moment for Darius.

“Every time I walk inside this building, we’re making history.”

What makes the experience even more meaningful is the joy behind the work. Every day brings a new story, a new perspective, and a deeper passion for the craft.

“As a young Black man, I know this opportunity and this place will open doors for others like me and continue building the legacy of WVON.”

Destiny Outreach continues to create spaces where purpose meets preparation and where young leaders like Darius are empowered to turn opportunity into impact.

“I made my own opportunities and I saw it through. I did it for myself.”

“Three months ago I was craving authenticity, and this has been a very authentic experience.”

Apprentice Alex Gorz journey through Destiny Outreach and his placement at WVON is a reflection of what happens when creativity meets opportunity, discipline and community.

Coming from a background where art and creativity existed but were not always seen as a career path, Alex found himself surrounded by people who shared his passions, aspirations and creative vision. What once felt distant became tangible. What once felt uncertain became possible.

Through his placement at WVON, Alex says he has grown tremendously in professionalism, confidence and consistency. He feels heard, valued and trusted to contribute meaningfully in rooms that are shaping real work and real impact. Even while editing, he recognizes that what he does matters.

As someone rooted in music, Alex shares that this experience taught him not to limit himself to one lane. The apprenticeship gave him another outlet to expand his creativity and challenged him to step beyond stagnation. Deadlines, expectations and accountability pushed him to become more punctual, intentional and committed to finishing the projects he once sat on.

Since joining the program, Alex has released over three songs, continued playing guitar and deepened his work in music production while growing professionally through his placement.

His biggest takeaway:

“You are allowed to pursue your dreams. There is always going to be a way if you care enough. I know I will come out of this apprenticeship program a lot more open. My horizon has expanded.”

This is the power of exposure, mentorship and believing in what is possible.

NBC covered the Day of Destiny Entertainment Summit: Hidden Figures, at the Chicago Cultural Center is a powerful reminder that Chicago’s voice in film and television is rising to a new era.

As Danita Patterson shared, “Chicago is at the precipice of a whole new market that is aligning for us with television, film. We got infrastructures that we’re building out, a robust tax credit and a workforce pipeline we’re feeding into…”

This moment is bigger than coverage. It is the recognition of vision, sacrifice, community and the future being built right here in Chicago. Destiny Outreach is deeply honored and grateful to be seen by such a legendary platform while continuing the work of creating opportunity, access and legacy for the next generation of storytellers and creatives.
