MESSAGE FOR CAREGIVERS!

You have made the selfless decision to be a full-time caregiver, whether for a family member who needs care or for your profession.

You. Have. To. Also. Take. Care. Of. Yourself.

Caregiving takes all of you. It takes an emotional, physical, and mental toll on you. You continuously pour out. However, what happens when your cup is empty?

At Sage, we are committed to standing with caregivers. We have created a Caregiver Resource library (https://sagecollective.org/caregiver-resources/) to help you find resources available for you and those in your care.

Today, take a moment to assess where you are. And let us know how we can help care for you.

June is Black Music Month and we want to honor one of our Vibrant Living program participants who recently passed away, Mr. Ray Bailey.

Ray Bailey was an accomplished musician and band leader as well as an exciting performer of all jazz styles. In the Chicago area he has performed at most major country clubs, hotels and in local jazz clubs such as Andy’s, The Back Room, Bella Vista, The Green Mill, Green Dolphin Street, Pop’s for Champagne, Joe’s Be-bop Café and may others that have come and gone.

The Ray Bailey Jazz Quintet played to standing-room-only crowds for 19 summers in the Garden Café of the Art Institute of Chicago. At the request of the project manager and program director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he has performed at cabaret fund-raisers and at parties for the season opening.

He studied at the Chicago School of Music and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. While traveling with a jazz organ trio he preformed all over the United States and Europe.

Thank you, Ray, for your contribution to music, your contribution to history, and for your vibrant life.

As late spring opens into early summer, gardening offers more than seasonal beauty. It invites movement, mindfulness, purpose, and connection — all essential parts of vibrant living.

In our latest Sage Advice® post, we explore how gardening can support physical and mental well-being, especially for older adults. Whether tending a backyard, balcony planter, raised bed, or community garden, the act of growing something reminds us that renewal is always possible.

To remember is to honor.

We remember because it’s so easy to forget.

Remembering keeps things alive…

Even when they’ve been lost.

We remember and honor those who gave their lives.

We celebrate them this Memorial Day.

One of the most powerful things aging adults have to offer are their stories. With decades of wisdom, aging adults are actual living history. You don’t have to read about a time in the past, you can hear a firsthand account! Thank you for being everyone’s favorite internet auntie!

Vibrant living is shaped by movement, nourishment, rest, connection, and purpose. But creativity belongs in that conversation, too. In our latest Sage Advice® post, we explore how looking at art can support mental and physical well-being — and why beauty, curiosity, and cultural engagement are essential parts of aging well. Yes. You will get older. But, how you get there is up to you. Aging is inevitable. Decline is optional. Choose well ❤️
