Today we remember and honor our unreturned Vietnam War veteran CDR Edward J Jacobs, Jr still missing and unaccounted-for on 25 Aug 1967. CDR Jacobs is represented by his daughters and son, Jeanie Jacobs Huffman, Ruth Frymire, Edward Jacobs, III and Dave Huffman son-in-law (Founding Members of Mission: POW-MIA).
I am the youngest of 7 kids, only 2 weeks old when my dad left for Vietnam, never to return home. When my mom received the news 5 months later that my dad was missing in action, she was left alone to care for herself and her children. In the 1960s families were not given much when their loved ones were KIA or MIA. She was told to leave base housing, with 7 kids in tow and a check for $10k was all the military paid out. No support, No benefits. That was it.
So as the years passed and I learned about my dad and started to research his loss, I began to see the truth behind the lies and the power-hungry people that have kept this issue moving on with no consideration for the one consistent thing that has been part of this entire issue of the Vietnam War, THE FAMILIES. I have been in this my entire life "HAVING SKIN IN THE GAME", not only waiting but doing, to get my loved one home. We don't go out and dig, we help families find answers through research, imagery, artifacts, and the list goes on. Until recently you did not hear about any one organization that has done this amount of work to help families until Mission: POW-MIA started making waves and actually doing work.
There are so many other organizations that ask for money, but they do not produce results. They continue to take from families while saying they are bringing home those missing. DPAA is the only organization that can excavate in SEA legally and they have brought our loved one's home. And we thank them for that. So, when I read about others that are continually slamming our organization, well, we must be doing something right, because we show results and we stay true to our families.
