Out with the old, in with the high-tech! 🌞🐓

Our chicken coop just got a little upgrade and we can't wait to see how our flock reacts to their brand new solar powered door! Not only will it allow the gals extra safety at nighttime, but it'll [hopefully] keep those pesky hawks at bay... because we'd prefer to leave the chicken sandwiches to the experts! 😜

Special thanks to our board member and volunteer, Julie, plus Collens, Morgan and Molly for checking this project off our to-do list!

Our goats are due for their quarterly hoof trims and we need YOUR help! Chances are you've seen him around the Nature Center, but let us reintroduce you to our board member, Robert!

Robert started out as a volunteer, completing over 60 hours of feeding our animals, serving on the Chicken Protective Detail and helping out around HKF HQ! He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he spent 13 years in his role as an Aviation Electronics Technician.

When asked why he joined the board, he said "I know first-hand the therapeutic effects that agriculture and nature provide. I hope to use my education and experience as a civil engineer to help in the development of the farm - especially the Alternative Wellness Space."

John, Jackson from CEP Solar and our friends from Convert Solar have been hard at work transforming the first of our Connex boxes into a fully solar powered charging station for our all-terrain wheelchairs.
