Have you ever wondered what a 40-foot steel Connex box looks like from the inside? Well, a few of our youngest volunteers found that out recently - and let's just say, they were great visuals to measure 'to scale!' ☺️

This box in particular will soon become a charging station for our Action Trackchair all-terrain wheelchairs, right outside of our Trail of Heroes. Lots more to come, so follow us here + on Instagram for all of the fun behind-the-scenes pics! 📸

Thanks to a recent grant from our friends at Obici Healthcare Foundation, our Trail of Heroes boasts the addition of a new bridge, taking visitors through 1.5 miles of our Nature Center, bypassing our pond, with three new gazebos to enjoy as resting points along the way. Families can also enjoy the 'conversation starter' signs that greet them on their journey, prompting new conversations with their child[ren], and pocket journals to spark reflection long after their ride has ended.

It's through small additions like these that we hope every walk or Trackchair ride through the trail will spark deeper conversation, communication and connection for the families we serve. 💙

Earlier this year, we hosted our friend, Mimi and her staff from VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads to bid farewell to Mimi and show her how their support has benefited our organization! Volunteer HR has been a community partner for the last three years, helping us grow our volunteer count from one, to 400 in 2024, to now, over 800 and counting! And did we mention they brought us our Director of Operations?
