What a weekend we had at the 2026 Grassroots Gathering! It was packed with wonderful discussions of how we can build power together, and we want to thank each person who participated in and contributed to our time together! 🙌

In addition to the accomplishments and stories we shared, we also got to hear from powerful speakers, learn in groups, share our talents, and interact in meaningful ways that help to make our chapters stronger. It is so important that we share our experiences about these issues that affect our lives and why we organize for change!

We have been urging our state officials to halt the NextEra/Dominion merger, and today Governor Abigail Spanberger put out an op-ed announcing that she would intervene. We want to thank the governor for standing up for Virginians and demanding “affordable, reliable, local and clean power.”

I have serious questions about what this deal would mean, and I intend to get answers.

Yesterday, we rallied alongside allies and partners in front of the Capitol Bell Tower to oppose NextEra Energy's proposed $67 billion acquisition of Dominion Energy. We called on the Governor Spanberger and members of the General Assembly to urge the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to reject the proposal.

“They see Virginia as easy pickins, as dollar signs. We see it as home,” said Melissa Thomas, Policy Director of Climate Equity Working Group.

“With a $60 billion bill, $2 billion worth of bill credits doesn’t seem like a fair deal for Virginians,” said Kajsa Foskey, Director of Virginia Energy Consumer Alliance. “It certainly doesn’t feel like a fair deal in a situation where we don’t have a seat at the table at said deal.”
