Today is the Day Without Child Care (DWOCC)! Parents and providers are striking β€” together β€” for universal child care.

Join us for a virtual rally TONIGHT at 8 p.m. EST, where providers, parents, and Changemakers from across the country will celebrate the successes of the day with state partners and local leaders, hear from elected officials and national partners, and be in community as we launch our Universal Childcare Campaign.

Register for the virtual rally here: shorturl.at/1pY8U

Today, we make visible what this country has ignored for far too long: child care is essential, and providers deserve better. Families deserve better. Our communities deserve better.

Across the country, parents and providers are rising up – together – to demand a universal childcare system that truly works for all of us.

There are 76 events across 28 states, and nearly 3,000 people taking action and mobilizing for our national universal childcare campaign launch.

The people who educate, nurture, and care for our children deserve better.

Better pay. Better support. Better policies.
Stand with child care workers today (May 11, 2026), and demand universal child care and thriving wages for providers.

Alongside your partners, we’re growing an undeniable movement β€” and every politician needs to know: the next few years will determine who got on board with progress and who stood in the way of making life easier for families.

We had a great Power Analysis last weekend! Chapter leaders and State Governing Board members from across the state gathered to assess who has power in Virginia and how we can strategize to tackle the issues that are important to us this year!

Many of the conversations focused on why and how we build power, who has power in Virginia, and current and past Virginia Organizing campaigns that have built power and effected change. Several common themes emerged from group discussions, indicating potential directions for issue campaigns.

"It's our interconnectedness that makes us strong," said Del McWhorter of the State Governing Board. "There are always places where we can make a difference, we just have to be strategic." This theme was echoed throughout the weekend.

"Alone, we can't make sure everyone is safe. But there's a sense of power when we are together...Being able to [build together] this way is a win. We're in the struggle," said Dilcia Molina of the Fredericksburg Chapter.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed your voices to the conversation!
