🚛 Meet the entrepreneur taking Crush Truck into its next chapter!

Say hello to Tyler Kroeschell, our Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Innovation Barn and the person taking the wheel of Crush Truck!

The truck is built. The model is tested. Now, Tyler is focused on growing the operation and helping more Charlotte-area businesses keep their glass in circulation.

Here’s how it works: Crush Truck visits bars, restaurants, breweries, and other businesses to crush their glass on-site. That glass then heads to Concrete Supply Company, where it replaces natural sand in concrete. Instead of becoming waste, those bottles get a second life right here in our local economy.

🤔 Why does that matter? North Carolina businesses with an ABC license to sell b**r, w**e, or liquor are required by state law to recycle. Crush Truck offers a local solution that helps businesses keep their glass moving toward reuse.

We asked Tyler why he wanted to take on the challenge, and his answer says it all:

“I am passionate about environmental sustainability. I want to do everything I can to ensure that the world is just a little bit better than I found it and, to me, that means keeping ‘trash’ out of landfills and in constant reuse to reduce our reliance on environmental exploitation. I love the city of Charlotte, and I believe this project helps position us to become leaders, showing the world what a more circular economy can look like.”

That’s the kind of thinking we’re excited to see driving this project forward. 🌱

Ally volunteers and the team were busy yesterday getting these gorgeous planters ready for An Evening at the Barn, and we can’t wait for you to see them in person. 🪴✨

The best part? Some lucky guests will get to take one home! We’re moving the party indoors because of the weather, but the celebration is still ON!

🍂 Leave the leaves. Seriously.

That pile of leaves you’re side-eyeing in your yard? It’s not just yard clutter. It can be a winter hideout for pollinators and wildlife, natural mulch for your soil, and a little seasonal help for Charlotte’s urban forest. 🐝🦋🌱

And honestly, we’re pretty into the idea of rethinking what we call waste. 😉

The City of Charlotte’s Leave Your Leaves campaign is encouraging residents to let fallen leaves do what they naturally do. Support the ecosystem instead of immediately sending them away!
