ICAN

ICAN ICAN is a free, family-centered youth service in the East Valley. Specifically, 8 out of 10 youth people in the areas we serve are living in extreme poverty.

ICAN’s (http://www.icanaz.org) mission is to provide access to out-of-school time opportunities that empower all youth and their families to pursue what is most meaningful to them. We provide a full complement of programs proven effective in equipping youth to achieve personal and academic success by tackling substance abuse, gang involvement and juvenile delinquency. Four of those children will g

o to be hungry at night and eight will be using drugs or alcohol to cope with the harsh realities they face. Joining gangs becomes a more viable choice than graduation in the community we serve. This is not an option for ICAN. We exist to combat these issues and build strong futures for them and for our community.

🎵🔬 What do music and science have in common? More than you might think!

This summer, Chandler-Gilbert Comm College is bringing STEAM to life for ICAN youth through Science That! Physics & Music, a hands-on exploration of sound, music, and physics.

From discovering how sound waves work to experiencing the power of music at the Musical Instrument Museum, youth are seeing STEAM come to life in exciting and interactive ways. 🥁🎹🎺🎻

Recently, ICAN teens visited Atria Senior Living, where they spent time painting alongside residents and sharing conversations across generations.

One resident left our teens with a powerful reminder: each person has a unique gift, and when they use it, they can create a happy and meaningful life.

Summer is officially underway at ICAN! ☀️🍉🩳💦

Families from our Chandler and Mesa sites recently joined us for our Summer Kick-Off Celebrations, where parents had the chance to learn about all the exciting experiences planned for youth this summer.

From an ICAN Carnival to lip sync battles, swim lessons, and even learning physics through music, our youth are set for a fun-filled summer full of discovery and memorable experiences.

We’re also grateful to the community partners who joined us to share valuable resources and information with our families: City Government of Chandler, Arizona Aquatics, Chandler Public Library, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, notMYkid, Arizona State University College of Health Solutions, and Daniel Hernandez.

Our ICAN garden is blooming with even more color thanks to our ICAN youth and the support of Preston and Erica Pilcher, along with Avnet volunteers! 🌱🎨

A special thank you to Mrs. Kathleen for designing the beautiful mural artwork and to Mr. Tom for the care he pours into our garden through fun planting activities and hands-on experiences for our youth.
