And since it’s Halloween… we should probably finally talk about William.
Our old hall was built in 1948, and the VFW took it over in 1968. The Post was named in honor of Air Force veteran William B. Pate.
Over the years, a little local legend has developed around the Post.
Some say William never completely left.
Nothing sinister — William is said to be a friendly spirit with a bit of a mischievous streak. A door that was definitely closed suddenly sitting open. Something moved from where you know you left it. A strange noise from an empty part of the building. Lights behaving like somebody is having a little fun with the switch.
Old building settling?
Probably.
William?
Well… it is more fun that way.
So if something strange happens while you’re visiting Post 7401 this Halloween, don’t worry.
William is just making sure everyone is having a good time. 👻
Come see us Halloween weekend and help us add another chapter to the legend.
