Evo & Eli's Love Box

Evo & Eli's Love Box Rescue PA Kennel 16933 EVO AND ELI'S LOVE BOX INC. How sad to go through that only being a puppy. Evo and Eli were inseparable. This would not be their fate.

Our Mission: Seniors dumped at high kill shelters, puppy mill or abuse survivors, dogs/cats deemed 'unadoptable' due to medical conditions or behavioral issues-these are the animals who found a home here at our sanctuary. WE ARE A 501C3 NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATION

Evo and Eli, two very young dachshunds, were dumped at a shelter by a back yard breeder. The breeder dumped them when they could not sell

them because they had not treated them for demodex mange and allowed both Evo and Eli to scratch and itch so much that they lost their hair and were covered in scabs. A rescue I volunteered for took them from the shelter and provided treatment for them. Slowly but surely with their meds, the hair started growing back. There were some bald spots but the medicine and lots of love made a difference. No more scratching and now they could concentrate on being puppies! They did everything together because of their special bond. If they could not see each other they would cry and whine until they found one another. If Evo had a vet appointment, Eli would have to go along because if he was left behind he would destroy his crate pad and blanket and have bloody paws trying to get out of his kennel to find his brother. It was thought that Evo and Eli would one day be adopted to a furever family and spend their days being loved and care for like they deserved. Evo got sick very quickly and was taken to the vet. Their foster mom, Georgeanne, was told that Evo had an enlarged heart and was dying. It was a hard decision but knowing that Evo was suffering, Georgeanne could only hold Evo and tell him he was a good boy and that she loved him while he passed over to the Rainbow Bridge on December 4, 2010. After Evo’s passing, his foster mommy, Georgeanne, wanted to do something in his memory and she thought of Evo’s Love Box knowing that Evo and Eli never had anything of their own before coming into rescue. They had only dreamed of a soft bed, collars and toys! Georgeanne, thought it would be a great idea to collect items for other needy dachshunds. Meanwhile, Eli mourned for his brother for weeks. He would walk around whining all day and after Evo went to the Rainbow Bridge, Eli would not sleep or eat for 2 days. Eli was heartbroken as he looked daily for his brother. He would go to Evo’s crate, look for him in his old bed, on and behind the couch and check every blanket in every room but could not find Evo. Georgeanne continued to console Eli and tell him that his brother was not there but Eli would not give up looking for him. On December 31st at 1:30am, Eli woke Georgeanne. She thought he might have to potty so she put on her slippers and picked him up to take him outside. As Georgeanne carried Eli down the hallway she could feel his heart beating fast but she thought he must really be excited about going outside. When they came back inside, Eli went to bed with his foster mommy and daddy but Georgeanne knew something wasn’t right because she could hear Eli breathing fast and heavy. She decided that she would call her vet, Dr. Shew, to see what she thought about his breathing. Dr. Shew recommended that she take Eli to the Mountain View Animal Emergency Clinic. Georgeanne and Eli hurried to the Emergency Vet. Eli was quickly evaluated and Dr. Maria Ciaravella told Georgeanne the bad news – Eli had an enlarged heart just like his brother. The emergency vet tried several things but Eli was not responding to the medicine. Georgeanne was again going to have to help another baby cross over to the Rainbow Bridge. During this terrible moment where Georgeanne would have to help Eli make this difficult transition she was greeted by a warm smile, Dr. Heidi Mostoller had arrived, the same vet that had helped when Evo went to the Rainbow Bridge. Georgeanne helped Eli as he went to the Rainbow Bridge and told him how brave he was and that he was loved and the he was going to be able to finally find his brother at the Rainbow Bridge. In honor of these two brothers, Calvin and Georgeanne Forsythe created Evo & Eli’s Love Box. This Love Box will allow their love to be passed onto those other babies in need (dogs/cats) who are cared for by loving foster parents. Inside of Evo & Eli’s Love Box we hope to have items like sweaters, collars, leashes, squeaky toys, soft beds, fleece blankets, gift certificates to pet stores, etc. If you would like to donate to the Love Box, please contact Calvin or Georgeanne at [email protected] OR MAIL ITEMS TO:

So sad. Happen in Gettysburg.

One dog crawled between couch cushions, got stuck there and died inside the "abjectly horrible" Gettysburg home, according to the district attorney's office.

ONCE AGAIN....
For assistance, please contact us directly. We kindly request that you refrain from asking volunteers about intake eligibility for dogs or cats, or seeking assistance with food or veterinary care, as they are not authorized to provide such information. Volunteers are not privy to internal decision-making processes or the resources available to our organization. Unfortunately, a recent incident involving a Franklin County resident highlights the importance of direct communication. In this case, a volunteer inadvertently provided misinformation, leading to unfortunate consequences. Had the individual contacted us directly, we would have been able to offer a solution and potentially prevented the loss of the pet.

I'm not posting this out of desperation, but rather out of necessity. As many long-time supporters are aware, perseverance is deeply ingrained in the fabric of our organization. The current state of rescue operations is dire, and the situation is grave. For over 25 years, Evo and Eli's Love Box and Sanctuary has consistently provided aid to dogs in need, but the escalating veterinary costs coupled with a significant decline in donations have created an unsustainable burden. Last week, we received merely one donation, which underscores the severity of our situation. We've recently disbursed nearly $8,000 in veterinary expenses, with additional medical needs pending, while continuing to provide essential care and supplies for the animals under our care. Regardless of donation frequency, our financial obligations remain unchanged. I am not seeking sympathy but rather urgent assistance. Our goal is to ensure Evo and Eli's Love Box and Sanctuary continues to support dogs for years to come, and we believe our community would benefit from more rescue efforts, not less. If you've considered contributing, please know that your support is crucial at this time. Every financial contribution, share, and endorsement counts. Through collaborative efforts, we've rescued thousands of dogs under challenging circumstances, and I'm confident that together, we can overcome this hurdle as well. Sincerely, The Gang at Evo and Eli's Love Box and Sanctuary.
