Little Daisy’s Closet: More Than a Place to Shop, a Place of Hope
For families facing difficult times, sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference. Whether it is a warm coat for the winter, clothing for a child heading back to school, a pair of shoes, food, pet supplies or simply knowing that someone is there to help, that is what Little Daisy’s Closet is all about. Little Daisy’s Closet’s mission reaches far beyond the items on its shelves. Behind every donation is an opportunity to help a family, meet a need and offer hope to someone going through a difficult time.
Little Daisy’s Closet is a no-cost, Christian-based community outreach program dedicated to helping individuals and families gain access to clothing and basic necessities while offering hope and support during challenging times. Through the generosity of local donors, volunteers, churches, businesses and community partners, the organization works to create fair and equitable access to resources and help families move toward a better quality of life.
But Little Daisy’s Closet is about more than the items lining its shelves.
“It’s about helping people,” said Mike Russo, the organization’s new volunteer president. “If there’s a need, we try to fill it.”
Visitors to Little Daisy’s Closet can shop for a variety of items, including clothing for men, women and children, shoes, toys, household goods and, when available, pet food and other necessities. Families can visit twice a month, allowing them to receive needed items without cost.
“We want people to feel welcome when they come here,” Russo said. “There are a lot of places where people can take their donations, so we’re grateful for everyone who chooses to support us.”
Behind the scenes, the work never stops. Donations regularly arrive at Little Daisy’s Closet, and each item is carefully sorted. Usable clothing is placed on hangers and displayed in the front for families to shop, while other items may be shared with partner organizations or partner ministries that ship clothing to Africa. Clothing that cannot be reused in any way gets recycled and repurposed in another way. The goal is simple: make sure nothing that can help someone goes to waste.
Little Daisy’s Closet also understands that every family’s needs are different. The organization works to provide assistance beyond what is immediately visible on the shelves. When someone has a specific need, volunteers do their best to locate the item or connect them with another organization that may be able to help.
Partnerships are an important part of that mission. Rather than working alone, Little Daisy’s Closet collaborates with other nonprofits and community organizations throughout the area.
“We’re all in the same boat,” Russo said. “There’s enough to share. If we can help somebody else, we help them, and if they can help us, they help us.”
The organization also works to make its services accessible to as many people as possible. Veterans and individuals with mobility challenges are given an opportunity to shop before regular hours, providing a more comfortable experience.
For families with children, Little Daisy’s Closet can be especially meaningful. The organization provides children’s clothing, toys and other items while also participating in community events and back-to-school programs. Volunteers collect and distribute backpacks, hygiene products and other essentials to help children prepare for the school year.
The organization also participates in holiday outreach, including collecting shoeboxes and helping bring Christmas joy to local children. At the heart of everything Little Daisy’s Closet does is its commitment to treating people with dignity and compassion.
There are times when the need is immediate and personal. In certain situations, individuals may need assistance unexpectedly, including those leaving difficult circumstances. Russo said the organization does its best to help without making the process more difficult for someone already facing a challenging time.
“We try to take care of everybody that we can take care of,” he said.
Little Daisy’s Closet also offers prayer to those who request it, reflecting the Christian foundation of the organization. Its mission is rooted in service, compassion and the belief that helping someone can mean more than simply handing them an item.
“Sometimes,” Russo said, “a conversation or a moment of support can be just as important.”
The organization’s work is made possible largely through its volunteers, whom Russo describes as more than just a team.
“We have a great family here,” he said.
That family includes the people sorting donations in the back, stocking shelves, greeting visitors, assisting shoppers and working behind the scenes to keep the organization running. It also includes the community members who donate clothing, food, household goods and other necessities.
Every donation helps Little Daisy’s Closet continue its mission of bringing hope to families who may be struggling. For those who support the organization, the impact goes far beyond a shirt, a pair of shoes or a bag of groceries. It can mean confidence for a child starting school. Relief for a parent trying to make ends meet. Comfort for someone going through a difficult season.
It can be a reminder that they are not alone.
Little Daisy’s Closet was founded on the idea of serving others, and as the organization continues to grow, that mission remains at the center of everything it does. Its vision is to offer hope and support to those struggling to attain a better quality of life.
And through the dedication of its volunteers and the continued generosity of the community, Little Daisy’s Closet is doing exactly that — one family, one need and one act of kindness at a time.
