The skills gap in the trades is the growing mismatch between the high number of technical job openings and the declining number of qualified workers available to fill them. A lot of the experienced, senior workforce are retiring faster than new workers can replace them.

🚧 For every five tradespeople who retire, only two enter the field!

Why should we care?
If the growing skills gap is not addressed, up to 2.1 million skilled trades job could go unfilled by 20230, risking uo to $1 trillion in annual economic losses. Shortage in workers is likely to lead to delays in building homes, repairs, and maintaining commercial real estate. Fewer workers mean higher costs for basic public and private services, construction, and consumer goods.

🎯 Trades offer strong, debt-free career paths with high starting wages, yet people miss out due to law of awareness. Be Pro Be Proud NC is showing North Carolina Students what is possible in the trades. When educators book a mobile workshop tour, they are helping us address the growing skills gap in North Carolina and influencing the next generation of trades professionals.
