As Mother’s Day approaches, we’re reminded that time with those we love is life’s most precious gift.

In the final movement of 'the breath of life', these words offer a powerful reflection:

Time is
Too Slow for those who Wait,
Too Swift for those who Fear,
Too Long for those who Grieve,
Too Short for those who Rejoice,
But for those who Love…
…Time is not.

This message comes alive in a deeply personal way within our choir. In the soprano section, a mother and daughter—Anneli and Sofia Leander—stand side by side, sharing not only music, but a meaningful chapter of their lives together.

“Singing runs in our family,” Sofia shares. “My grandmother sang in a choir, and my mom’s grandmother sang too—so I’m a fourth-generation singer. It’s incredibly special that we get to sing together.”

As she reflects on 'the breath of life', Sofia adds: “I’m really moved by the last movement. For me, it’s about being grateful for the time we have together. I don’t know how long I’ll be here, so singing next to my mom right now means everything.”

Anneli echoes that sentiment: “I love that movement—it feels like the circle of life, how the music weaves in and out. I absolutely love singing with Sofia. We won’t always be standing next to each other, so this time now is truly precious.”

Their story is a beautiful reminder to cherish the moments we have—especially with those closest to us.

Thoughts from our director, Dr. Lindsey Bruner Woodcock, for the upcoming 'the breath of life' concert:

“Since Dan Forrest's music has such a distinctive sound, I wanted to surround his work with other pieces of very different styles. However, each piece ties back into a theme present in the breath of life - love, loss, connection to a higher power, and living life to its fullest… If I could describe this concert in three words, I would love to use 100 so I'm going to cheat and use some hyphenated words!: Meditative, thought-provoking, and life-affirming! I hope you all take home a reminder that each breath is a gift, and meaning is found when we take time in our busy lives to notice, appreciate, and love.”

Tickets are available for this April 11th concert and we hope you experience everything Dr. Woodcock wishes for you as an audience member!
