Saturday, November 14 - Come to Heritage Day at Mill Creek Forge! 10am- 4pm

See colonial hearth cooking implements made by guest smiths.
Primitive woodworking, candle making , soap making and knife making demos.
Fire pit cooking, flax preparation and flax spinning, flint knapping and fire starting.
Weaving and spinning demo's on an 1820 counterbalance loom and great wheel in the weaving room, yarn and cloth being dyed with plants and natural dyes, and quilting.

Open forge for interested blacksmiths.

Come get some tips, buy a book or just visit around the fire.

Moore County Fair is in a few weeks! We’ve been offered a booth space - anyone available to help set up and take down? We’d love to display some of the cool things guild members have made, so if you have any forged items you can loan for a week, let us know in comments or with a message. Knives, lamps, andirons, hardware - if you’ve made it, we will display it!

Booth set-up dates are 10/11 and 10/12. Tear down is the afternoon of 10/18. If you’re able to loan us a few things, we can arrange to meet ahead of time in Carthage. The fairgrounds are located at 3661 US 15-501, Carthage NC 28327. Comment below or message directly if you’re able to help.

Nearly time for our next meeting! Saturday, October 24th, 10am-2pm. We had a great turnout at the August meeting and made good progress on the SBG gate. Let’s keep the momentum going.

Please note - the upcoming open forge at Mill Creek Forge has been rescheduled to Saturday September 26. Same time/place/details (come by and visit and try your hand at hammering iron. Guest blacksmiths on hand to help).

Nearly time for our next meeting! Saturday, August 29th, at The Carthage Forge. As per usual, come for the demonstration, stay to hang out with other local blacksmiths. All levels welcome - absolute beginners and old-timers and everyone in between.

The next event on the SBG calendar is the 2nd Quarter NCABANA meeting: Saturday 6/20, at 10am, held at The Carthage Forge.

Details:
-The Carthage Forge is located in Moore County: 211 Martin St, Carthage NC 28327.
-Demonstration by Matt King of The Carthage Forge.
-There will be space for tailgate sales, please try to arrive on time if you plan to sell.
- There will be some samples and literature from Sculpt Nouveau (metal finishes company) available.
- BBQ lunch will be provided free of charge.
- There will be a “Blacksmith Challenge” station. This meeting's challenge will be a 2 1/2” nail “by eye” no measuring allowed, no outside tools with known measurements. More details on this at the event.
-As usual we will have an Iron In The Hat drawing. Please bring your items to donate, and buy plenty of tickets to win something you didn't know you needed.
- Bringing your own chairs is encouraged, there will be some seating available.

Carthage’s annual Buggy Festival is happening Saturday! Plenty to see and do. I’ll be at the forge most of the day; drop in and say hi.

It was all hands on deck to make an 18th century handled trivet at today’s meeting. Experienced and new smiths alike got involved and practiced traditional blacksmithing techniques. Swipe to see the finished product and lucky winner Dick Snow.
