Christina Rose Parton (Zeke’s Owner) Obituary

Christina Rose Parton, 36, of Seven Lakes passed on Monday, January 29, 2024.

A memorial service will be held 5PM on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Chapel in Pines in Seven Lakes with the Rev. Paul James officiating. A visitation time with friends and family will follow.

Christina was born June 20, 1987 in Raleigh, NC to Timothy Lewis Parton and Nancy Rose (Aniol) Parton. Christina had a beautiful, magnetic energy that drew people to her. To know her was to instantly see that, and love her. Her smile and laughter were infectious, and those closest to her were always warmed by her bright spirit. She was smart, very witty, funny, a wonderfully loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Christina had a huge passion and love for animals, and was also survived by her dog Zeke and cat Lamar, both of whom she’d had for many years.

Christina worked for the past few years as a manager of a private owned resort property in Pinehurst, NC. She loved meeting people from around the world who came to stay at the resort and play golf, and was a dedicated, very hard worker.

She is survived by her mother, Nancy Parton of Seven Lakes; three brothers, Luke Parton and wife Katie of Mount Pleasant, SC; Stephen Parton of Japan; Matt Koski and wife Angela of Rose City, MI; a sister, Kami McAllister and husband Ty of Lapeer, MI; several nieces and nephews, Grace Parton, Kalliopi Koski, Isabella Koski, Sasha Koski, Jordan Hottum, Jake Hottum, Rylie McAllister, and Ian McAllister.

She was preceded in death by her father Timothy Parton.

In lieu of flowers, future memorial donations can be made in memory of Christina Parton to Zeke’s Fund, which is a new non-profit that is in the process of being formed. The fund will aim to provide resources to animals needing emergency medical care in situations where they may otherwise be euthanized.

Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes is serving the family.

Our momentum is staggering. In times of need, there is never a shortage of compassionate people to stand up for what is right and this circumstance is no different.

We are working very quickly on getting our 501c3 paperwork in order, getting rescues lined up in case of the inability to notify next of kin, as well as speaking with amazing veterinary facilities in our area with standard operating procedures and guidelines. This way when we are ready to go, there are no questions of where we stand or our abilities to help these animals.

The night Zeke was found he had on a purple harness with a purple leash. Tomorrow, his owner will be laid to rest. I would ask you all to consider wearing something purple tomorrow for her and for Zeke.

How it all began…
Tragedy struck a family on the night of January 29th. A 36 year old woman, who was a daughter and a sister, lost her life in a motor vehicle accident. In the back seat of that vehicle, sat Zeke, “her baby” according to her family and the sole survivor of the accident. With no next of kin immediately available, authorities were called to take control of Zeke, who had some cuts and refused to put weight on his front leg when standing or sitting. More than likely, Zeke would have also lost his life that night too as the authorities had no option for veterinary treatment due to not having a veterinarian on staff at the animal shelter and the lack of available funding in their budget to pay for expenses at the local emergency veterinary clinic, so the alternative was to end his pain and suffering with humane euthanasia at the animal shelter. However, good hearted people stepped in and took Zeke to the vet that night where it was found he only had a dislocated elbow (front leg) which was quickly treated and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Our mission is inspired by Zeke, sole survivor of a horrific motor vehicle accident where his loving owner was killed leaving him at the mercy of the emergency responders. The Zeke Fund will benefit all animals like him who find their lives in the balance with nobody to rely on to speak up for their welfare and see that they have a chance to return to the family that loves them. The Zeke Fund is to ensure that if an animal is ever discovered injured on an emergency scene in Moore County (North Carolina) where a fatality has occurred, leaving the animal without an owner or responsible person immediately available, there is funding available and volunteers who will step in to help transport the animal to an in-network veterinary clinic, during business hours or after hours, to be medically stabilized and provided with pain management until next of kin can be notified to take over custody, continue medical treatment, and accept responsibility for the associated expenses moving forward.

No person needs to hear that a loved one was lost and never coming back followed by being told that the only possession they could still attach themselves too was euthanized due to lack of resources to provide emergent medical care. Thankfully someone spoke up and stepped up for Zeke that night and transported him to the veterinary clinic because had they not, he would would not be alive to be the only thing that the family still has to hold onto now that Zeke’s owner, their beloved daughter and sister, is no longer with them.

Help us, help them… Our dream is that one day humans will treat animals like beings and not belongings.

*NOTE: We will be submitting the necessary paperwork in the near future to become a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization and will post to this page when that status is official*
