Because we're always prepared to serve, we spent helping you be prepared, too! ✅ We taught CPR to around 30 people—and Fiona 🐕—at the Tar Heel Preparedness Festival! (Thx to volunteers Aaren Capilitan, Claire Curran and Caroline Williams!). We also published a South Orange Dispatch on the importance of learning first aid (loom.ly/Ux23egM). Member Spotlight: Natalie Deeb! (Pictured on the right, modeling our fashionable stair chair.) 😎🚑

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Natalie Deeb, who has been a member of South Orange Rescue Squad since June 2025!

🧠 A little about Natalie: Natalie recently graduated from UNC with a degree in neuroscience and is now working as a research coordinator in a reproductive psychiatry lab while applying to medical school. She’s originally from Cary, NC!

🧵 Fun fact: Natalie is currently learning embroidery and cross-stitch. We love a good off-duty creative pursuit!

🏈 Favorite SORS memory: Meeting Seth Trimble while working a football response team last year. (Apparently, SORS + UNC athletics is becoming a recurring theme in our Member Spotlights!)

💡 Natalie’s advice: Keep testing your knowledge and asking questions—even after you’re cut loose! You never know when you might need to use a skill or respond to an emergency that you haven’t practiced or encountered since EMT class.

We’re so glad to have Natalie on the SORS team! Thanks for bringing your curiosity, dedication, and willingness to keep learning to the squad. ❤️🚑

This morning, many SORS volunteers joined the community at Kenan Memorial Stadium for the annual 9/11 Stair Climb.

Together, participants climbed 2,071 stairs—the equivalent of the height of the World Trade Center towers—to remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, police officers, military members, first responders, and civilians who answered the call that day.

For those of us who volunteer in emergency services, the meaning of this day feels especially close to home. We are grateful for the opportunity to pause, remember, and stand alongside our fellow responders and community members.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸
