𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫! 🏈🚑

This week, SORS volunteers gathered at Kenan Stadium for our annual EMS training, working through a variety of scenarios throughout the stadium and surrounding areas.

From practicing patient care to navigating the unique challenges of providing medical coverage at a busy venue, this training is an important part of making sure we're ready when our community needs us.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for the time, energy, and dedication you put into being prepared—not just Wednesday night, but all year long. Your commitment to training makes a difference.

With a new academic year getting underway and football season just around the corner, we're feeling good about being ready to serve our community. Bring on the season!

What a heartache! 💔We were all sad to hear of Dolly Parton’s passing. 🦋 On top of being an entertainment icon, she was a humanitarian and supporter of medical research and access to healthcare. So it seems only fitting that two of her hits have the perfect cadence for CPR. Member Spotlight: Aarav Mehta! 🚑

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Aarav Mehta, who has been a member of South Orange Rescue Squad since May 2025!

📍 A little about Aarav: He was born in Cary, NC, and has spent his entire life within 45 minutes of the hospital where he was born. Talk about staying local!

🔤 Fun fact: Aarav has memorized the entire alphabet backwards. (And yes, we expect a demonstration someday.)

🏀 Favorite SORS memory: Getting to watch the end of Seth Trimble’s 3-point buzzer-beater comeback against Duke in the Dean Dome while Aarav was staffing a response team. Not a bad shift!

💡 Aarav’s advice to fellow EMTs: Keep reviewing—even after you’re no longer required to. Aarav says he learned a lot by going back over protocols on his own, as well as while reviewing them to help teach new cadets.

We’re grateful to have Aarav on the SORS team! Thanks for everything you bring to the squad. ❤️🚑

This past Tuesday, August 11, SORS's Technical Rescue Team supported colleagues from state and local rescue agencies during a Search and Rescue in Hoke County. TRT joined more than a dozen other groups navigating dense brush across a 5-square-mile search area in the summer heat. The search remains ongoing.

TRT also mobilized for two other SAR calls this week, although thankfully, the missing persons were located as the squad was en route. While we are grateful that they were found, our thoughts remain with the still-missing individual in Hoke County.

𝐂𝐏𝐑 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬! ❤️

South Orange Rescue Squad member Marie Rossettie was reminded of that while visiting family last week, when her aunt suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

Thankfully, you don't have to be an EMT, a medical professional, or a superhero to learn how to help. You just need to know what to do—and be willing to step in.

The South Orange Rescue Squad offers 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐂𝐏𝐑 and 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐢𝐝 classes to our community. You could be the person who gets someone to their next vacation, their next birthday, or their next great story.

𝐂𝐏𝐑 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐭. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭.

And a very special shout-out to another all-volunteer rescue squad, for helping get Theresa the higher level of care she needed. Thanks to their quick response, along with the incredible hospital teams who cared for her, she's back home and making a full recovery! 💕
