Love Thy Neighbor is a group of volunteers in and around the community of Carmi, Illinois working to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

These photos tell a story. A story that starts with an older gentleman no longer able to go outside and keep up with his yard. It became overgrown and overwhelming. Though the job was massive, our God is bigger than all obstacles. He started putting just the right people together at just the right time. One day a former neighbor, Sheila, with a deep desire to help this gentleman even though she no longer lives on the block, started asking for help. With that man’s permission, she reached out to Love Thy Neighbor. Meanwhile, over a period of weeks, a young man next door mowed, cut down trees, and hauled off truckloads of debris. Peyton (Sheila’s son) is the next door neighbor who stepped up and helped in a huge way. This morning, volunteers with Love Thy Neighbor worked hard and finished the cleanup. Many thanks to EACH OF YOU who played a part in truly loving your neighbor!

What a difference a few can make! Thank you Bob and Mary for your patience as the many obstacles were overcome, from, rain, to heat, to transition. Thank you to the VOLUNTEERS, those who worked tirelessly to get us back up and going, to our coordinator, and to all of you that encourage, share and support this mission.

We can now accept donations from a Debit or Credit Card, Cash App, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We are officially a nonprofit and will be applying for our 501(c)3 tax exempt status soon. Once the IRS approves our application, your donation may be tax deductible.

Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL NFP would like to help individuals who have no way to take their unused electronics to the recycling event on September 27, 2025. Due to limited resources available on this date, we will only be able to pickup within Carmi city limits and not be able to take any large appliances such as washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, stove, dishwasher, etc. (At some future date, we may be able to offer a large appliance pickup but please follow our page to stay updated on that.) If you have questions, please message us. The link to the pickup request is below and must be submitted by Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL NPF is so THANKFUL to announce, due to God’s Grace, the outpouring of volunteer support, and community encouragement, we have successfully completed the process to begin serving our community. We are also excited to share we are not limited to Carmi, with enough volunteers we can begin to serve all of Southeastern Illinois. The more volunteers, the better we can serve our neighbors, our community, and this region. Thank you to the volunteers that have already served, and begun to transition into the group via the required process. Any and all volunteers are encouraged to join in creating an outpouring of love, humanity, and compassion that brings this entire community together. Please reach out to volunteer with Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL NFP, as you are the core of change for many elderly, disabled, and others in our community who are so very much in need. Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL NFP Announcement

First!!!!, We so greatly appreciate the patience of the community that has shown, not only that the need for this service to be available, but for the outpouring of positive feedback, and the support of our volunteers🤲🙏👏
Secondly, we would like to share that, this pause has allowed us to structure a firm foundation to better service our community, and the ability to grow in our reach. We have been working very diligently to improve our ability to service the southeastern Illinois area. We will be reaching out to our current volunteers later in the week, and those who have pending work requests to start back in service. We will continue to update the community as we progress and continue to grow!

We want to take the opportunity to thank the community for their abundance of positive support to Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL. This has created a great deal of growth that requires some restructuring. During this restructuring, there will need to be a pause in service. We will make it as brief as possible, and will be excited to return to additional growth opportunities.

INSPIRING!!!!!! Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL, was so blessed today on a large project. We were able to partner with Ditney Ridge Baptist Church, who gathered together in abundance, bringing 18 people, Love Thy Neighbor bringing 5, with a special thank you to coordinator Katrina, that brought this together. In addition, thank you to Silver. The collaboration today of equipment, skill, and heart made this a success. All worked together in a joyful and delightful way to make an amazing change to not just a property, but to the hearts and lives of the homeowners, we have such extreme gratitude to ALL the volunteers in both groups. Thank you Lord for bringing these groups together for this project!!!

Volunteers showed up in a big way on the second and final day of this dual yard cleanup project. Both homeowners were so appreciative of all the hard work. Loving neighbors in our community only takes a few hours but makes such an impact on not only a property’s appearance, but most importantly, in the lives of those being served and those doing the serving.

Volunteers with Love Thy Neighbor-Carmi, IL were back out early this morning after taking a break from yard work due to heat and humidity. An hour later, a team of seven were finished with this project and headed home or off to work at their paying jobs. Thanks so much to all our great volunteers who make the time to serve neighbors in our community!
