The Cape Charles Volunteer Fire Company would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Eastville Volunteer Fire Co. for lending us their reserve engine over the past several weeks. Their generosity, partnership, and commitment to mutual aid allowed us to continue serving our community without interruption during a period when several of our apparatus were unexpectedly taken out of service.
Our 2024 E-One Engine was recently removed from service for its annual inspection and pump test. During that process, a concern was identified with the air brake system that has required collaboration with the manufacturer's engineering department to determine the best path forward.
At the same time, our 30-year-old Rescue Engine, which also serves as our second-due fire engine and reserve engine, was permanently removed from service after inspectors determined the frame rails had deteriorated from rust to the point that repairs were no longer cost-effective.
Adding to the challenge, our 1992 Mack Tanker was also taken out of service for brake repairs after experiencing issues while responding to a brush fire this past Saturday.
While these situations have certainly tested us, they have also highlighted the strength of the volunteer fire service and the importance of neighboring departments helping one another. Most importantly, at no time were we unable to respond to emergencies. Through careful planning, mutual aid partnerships, and the dedication of our volunteers, we have continued to provide the level of service our community expects and deserves.
Challenges like these remind us how fortunate we are to have the support of our community, our neighboring departments, and our dedicated volunteers. We remain committed to providing professional emergency services and preparing for the future needs of Cape Charles and the surrounding area.
Thank you again to the members of Eastville Volunteer Fire Company for stepping up when we needed help. Your support made a difference, and we are grateful for your friendship and partnership.
