The Salvation Army , Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is the all-hazards disaster response and preparedness program for The Salvation Army. The Massachusetts Division program covers the entire state of Massachusetts. We have more than 750 trained volunteers, 5 canteens, 4 shelter trailers and a host of other assets.

EDS Update: Our Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services USA teams from Pittsfield and Athol were called to the Williamstown, MA Brush Fire which made headlines after the blaze spread across state borders yesterday. We fed 50+ firefighters and first responders on scene. Our trained EDS volunteers teamed up with The Salvation Army Empire Division Emergency Disaster Services and worked alongside American Red Cross of Massachusetts and New York Red Cross volunteers. EDS Update: We’re ready before, during, and after disaster strikes! The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services USA team from Pittsfield was providing hot breakfast to members of the Southern Berkshire Regional Emergency Planning Committee, when they received a request to respond to the wildfires in Williamstown. Our team pivoted immediately and went into action. They’re providing lunch and dinner to firefighters and other first responders, and will collaborate with The Salvation Army Empire Division Emergency Disaster Services which is already serving the fire response in New York, just across the state border. EDS Update: Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services teams from Lynn and Cambridge providing dinner, snacks, drinks for displaced residents of 4-alarm Malden fire. Working with emergency management partners to identify future needs.

BREAKING UPDATE: Officials say a firefighter was taken to the hospital, and up to 20 people will likely be without a home after a roaring, quick-moving fire destroyed part of a triple-decker in Malden this afternoon.

Yesterday our Southeast regional EDS team - with support from the Boston Kroc Center’s culinary Chef and The Salvation Army of Greater Milford - served 40 meals to the training team for The Medical Reserve Corps in Westwood MA. EDS collaborates with the MRCs during both disasters and in peacetime, like yesterday’s training. Last night our EDS team from The Salvation Army of Pittsfield responded to a 2 alarm fire at a multi family home on Springside Ave. We provided snacks, hydration, hot drinks, blankets and Emotional and Spiritual care to the displaced residents. We remained on scene for several hours and will continue to be a support to the families if needed as they recover.
