Memorial Day: Here we go again. Disgusted by the young blond man who deliberately threw a bag of metal and broken glass into our cardboard recycling bin, then dashed off to a light gray car at the edge of the bank parking lot. Now we have to dig through it or the hauler can't take the whole bin of recyclables.

We had fun and are counting up whatwe earned. Thanks, everyone!

St. Lawrence Country is no stranger to hunger, and all of us who work in pantries or soup kitchens, school programs and more got together on Friday to share ideas during our monthly alliance meeting. Three leaders from Food Bank of Central New York also attended. We appreciate all the help and guidance FBCNY provides.

We enjoyed a tour and lovely meal hosted by our friends at Helping Hands in Hannawa Falls. Thank you to Tamie Sauve and her staff for their hospitality. Congratulations to Helping Hands for the great work they're doing!

UPDATE: The Knights and members of St. Mary's congregation in Canton outdid themselves. Corey came by to top off the wonderful food collection with a $300 contribution from parishioners. Thank you!

How sweet is this? Thank you to our friends at Canton Dollar Tree for donating a mountain of extra candy to our Church & Community Program food pantry. That's always in season! We also received some cosmetics for our shop. Thank you to Connor Ward and Becky Flanagan for helping load it all for us.

You never know what might come into our Second Chance Thrift Shop. We received a lot of very nice National Geographic DVDs, some not even opened. Church & Community Program volunteer Cathy Devins is showing off just a few of them here. We know not everyone still has a DVD player, but we're told you can connect an inexpensive, small one to your computer and watch the video that way. Come see us at 30 Court St. in Canton. We're having a BOGO on all tops so you may want to stay a while and shop!
