ICYMI: 📣The National Center for Health Statistics has proposed major revisions for the National Health Interview Survey. These changes would start in 2028. NCHS is seeking public comment on these changes to the NHIS. Comments must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET October 19, 2026.

The NHIS is one of the nation's most important sources of information about health, disability, functioning, health care access, and health outcomes. The proposed changes include significant updates to questions and to how information is gathered. The proposed revisions will make it harder to identify in the data people with disabilities—especially people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People with disabilities have a right to be represented in national data.

As Su***de Prevention Month comes to a close, we’re proud to share HSRI's preliminary findings from our peer respite evaluation in Vermont, funded by Four Pines Fund. Peer respite programs—like Pathways Vermont's Rosewood Cottage—are making a real difference in su***de prevention and crisis support. Our research found that Rosewood Cottage peer respite guests experienced improved outcomes from entry to exit, including a remarkable 50% decrease in those who agreed with the statement, "I want to end my life." These results highlight the value of peer-led, community-based support in helping individuals navigate crises and find hope.
