As part of STEM Week, 23 students from Revere High School participated in an exciting field trip to Gloucester Biotechnology Academy on Monday. During the visit, students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, where they were taught how to prepare, run, and clean a sequencing instrument. They also received an introduction to sequencing data, giving them insight into how the technology is used in real-world biotech applications. STEM Week 2024 is happening now!

This year’s focus is “STEM starts now” – a reminder that learning and exploring STEM is possible at any age! Whether you’re a child just starting out or an adult interested in STEM, opportunities are available right here in Massachusetts!

From October 21st-25th, Massachusetts celebrates STEM Week, hosted by the Healey-Driscoll Administration, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, and Secretary of Education Dr. Patrick Tutwiler.
This week is dedicated to encouraging students from all backgrounds to pursue STEM careers and education, with special emphasis on increasing diversity in the field. Everyone has a place in STEM, and the future starts now!

🎉 Exciting News! On Friday, October 11th, we celebrated the grand opening of the newly relocated MassHire Metro North Career Center in Woburn at 800 W Cummings Park, Suite 6400.

This new location is more accessible for public transportation users, offers plenty of free parking, elevators, and adaptive technology to support all job seekers.

Speakers at the event included: MA State Senator Cindy Friedman - Highlighted the need to fund workforce development initiatives to ensure MA residents have access to sustainable jobs. ABCD President & CEO Sharon Scott-Chandler - Spoke about the increased accessibility and resources available at the new center location. Alysia Ordway, Undersecretary for Workforce Development - Shared her personal experience with unemployment and the importance of empathy for job seekers. Ron Marlow, VP of ABCD Workforce Development & Alternative Education - Emphasized the support and security the center offers to the community. Chris Albrizio-Lee, MassHire Metro North Workforce Board - Stressed the value of partnerships between ABCD, the Workforce Board, and the career centers. Mayor Mike Concannon - Spoke on the positive impact of having a MassHire Career Center in Woburn.

This Digital Inclusion Week, it is important to recognize digital disparities in the Metro North region. According to findings from the American Community Survey, on average, over 5% of Metro North priority community residents have no internet or computer. Our Digital JEDI Consortium is working to bridge this gap. Through our innovative Digital Navigator Cohort, community members have access to live tech support, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their technical expertise, can receive guidance and assistance with digital technologies. This initiative not only empowers individuals by enhancing their digital skills but also strengthens community ties by fostering a more inclusive and tech-savvy environment.
