Day 3 of the 2026 Constitutional Convention:

Some of our speakers for the day were NAACP President Derrick Johnson, Vice President Laura Dickerson, Congressional Representative Debbie Dingell and Illinois Congressman Jonathan Jackson.

A UAW Social Justice award was given to Reverend Jessie Jackson. Jessie Jackson’s son, Jonathan Jackson, accepted the award in his father’s honor.

Lastly, nominations were made for the International Executive Board. They as as follows:

Day 2 of the Constitutional Convention held a lot of debates, a lot of voting and a lot of voices heard! Some guest speakers included President Shawn Fain, General Secretary of IndustriALL Global Union Atle Høie, Vice President Laura Dickerson, Region 8 Director Tim Smith, SEIU President April Verrett and the Director of Organizing & Bargaining Strategies Dept. Mike Morrison.

The Social Justice award was given to the UAW Volkswagen bargaining committee, Local 42 out of Chattanooga, TN. Steve Cochran, who is the Co-Chair of the Bargaining Committee for Local 42, accepted the award, brought others from their local up to the podium with him and gave an emotional speech about the importance of never giving up.

Roberta Gainer stepped to the mic in support of our retirees and Jeanne LoHouse read the proposed change of Article 5, Jurisdiction - which was voted on and adopted.

Our delegate Roberta Gainer stood up to the mic today and said it best: "I am a member of Local 774. I am a member of Region 9. We are a small region but, we are significant in the labor movement."

Roberta talked about the importance of the lobbying efforts made by the members of our region. She shared the fact that here at 774, if our members get called to strike - we will! If we were to do that, after 2 weeks our members will be able to collect unemployment insurance due to those efforts.

Day 1 of the Constitutional Convention has concluded and it was filled with some amazing speakers. Just some that we got to hear from today were President Shawn Fain, Region 1 Director LaShawn English, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, the Mayor of Detroit Mary Sheffield, Secretary-Treasurer Margaret Mock, Parliamentarian Mike Taliercio, Ray Curry and Chuck Browning.

We also got to witness the Color Guard ceremony and both Region 1 & 1A Choirs.

They introduced the members of all our different Committees. You should recognize our very own Jeanne LoHouse as part of the Constitution Committee.

Delegates approved reports of the Credential Committee and the Rules Committee. Delegates also voted to pass several constitutional amendments regarding Health & Safety, the UAW Veterans Department and more.

We can’t wait for day 2 tomorrow!

✊🏾🎉 Join UAW Region 9 this weekend as we proudly participate in the Buffalo Juneteenth Parade!

Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, celebrate Black history and culture, and continue the fight for justice and equality. We invite all UAW members, retirees, families, and friends to walk with us as we celebrate this important day in our community.
