They Burned the Food. We Can Share It.
As we prepare to fast and mourn the destruction of the Temple, the Talmud recalls a painful moment from the siege of Jerusalem.
Three wealthy residents had stored enough wheat, barley, oil, salt, wine and firewood to sustain the city for 21 years. Their plan was to feed Jerusalem through the siege. But the zealots, determined to force the people into battle, burned the storehouses—and famine followed.
On this fast day, we have an opportunity to respond in the opposite way: not by destroying food, but by sharing it.
Please sponsor food for someone in need through Masbia. By helping fill a pantry bag or serve a hot meal, we can turn a day that remembers hunger and destruction into an act of nourishment and rebuilding.
Help feed someone in need today.

Over 3,000 pounds of frozen that might otherwise have gone to a landfill instead helped feed families facing food insecurity.
The pizza arrived at Masbia of Boro Park on several pallets. Each family received a full case, and couriers loaded up to four deliveries at a time onto their motorcycles and quickly brought the frozen pizza to approximately 300 families in need, helping ensure that it reached them while still frozen.
This was made possible through a partnership among , which donated the pizza; DoorDash, which completed the deliveries at a nonprofit rate while fully subsidizing some of them; and Masbia Soup Kitchen Network, a New York City emergency food provider with four locations serving families through food pantries, hot meals, and home deliveries.
The timing made this donation especially meaningful. During the Jewish mourning period known as the , many observant families refrained from eating meat and poultry, making dairy foods such as pizza an especially welcome and practical source of nourishment.

Reported by Aurora Fowlkes, anchored by Julia Burns and Kelly Kennedy and posted by Anaya Balkcom.
