They Burned the Food. We Can Share It.
As we prepare to fast and mourn the destruction of the Temple, the Talmud recalls a painful moment from the siege of Jerusalem.
Three wealthy residents had stored enough wheat, barley, oil, salt, wine and firewood to sustain the city for 21 years. Their plan was to feed Jerusalem through the siege. But the zealots, determined to force the people into battle, burned the storehouses—and famine followed.
On this fast day, we have an opportunity to respond in the opposite way: not by destroying food, but by sharing it.
Please sponsor food for someone in need through Masbia. By helping fill a pantry bag or serve a hot meal, we can turn a day that remembers hunger and destruction into an act of nourishment and rebuilding.
Help feed someone in need today.
