Yesterday, as we were getting ready for Thanksgiving, we found this handwritten note left on one of the tables at our soup kitchen.

It stopped us in our tracks.

On a day when so many think about gratitude, someone who is struggling took the time to put their thanks into words. Their message - about kindness, unity, and the blessing of helping others - touched every one of us.

As we serve Thanksgiving meals today, and as we expand to more neighborhoods to meet the growing need, notes like this remind us why we do this workโ€ฆ and who weโ€™re doing it for.

If this message moves you the way it moved us, please consider supporting our work this Thanksgiving.

Thank you - from all of us, and from the person who left this beautiful note.

Please sponsor meals today. On our High Holiday page, youโ€™ll find sponsorship opportunities for this Shabbos under the Sukkas tab, just scroll to the right and select the appropriate day. We anticipate about 50 guests per meal in our sukkah, in addition to the 276 widows and orphans receiving cooked meals for this Shabbos Chol HaMoed, and the thousands of families receiving raw food packages so they can prepare their own Shabbos and holiday meals.

Sponsoring Shabbos meals for the needy every Shabbos has a very special segula. Feeding the hungry will mean inclusion in the blessing of Mi Sheberach, which blesses those who give bread and wine on Shabbos to the poor. Itโ€™s the one Mi sheberach said by all of klal israel before the Torah scroll is returned to the ark. During the holiday season, people remember to invite the less fortunate to the more typical meals. But itโ€™s a Shabbos like this when Masbia sees an increase in demand because, at the end of the day, people need a place to eat.

Masbia serves in-house Shabbos meals on Friday night and Saturday lunch. These meals are intended to offer a spiritual Shabbos experience which includes traditional Shabbos foods and traditional Shabbos songs. Shabbos meals are all about traditional foods and foods based on minhagim. That includes varieties of kugels and challahs, chicken soup with matzah balls, gefilte fish and chrein, salmon fillet and all kinds of dips and salads. In addition to the food, Masbia goes the extra mile to transform the restaurant-like setting, with flowers and fresh table cloths and all the Shabbos accessories. The result is a lavish meal where everyone feels at home.

The Shabbos accommodations demand a lot of resources in food, staff and logistics, and we need financial support. Masbia is seeking to raise $16,200 to cover Shabbos Hazinu meals at all three Masbia sites. That includes the Friday night meal and the Saturday meal. Masbia expects to serve 50 meals per site on Friday night and Saturday.

You can sponsor one guest for one Shabbos meal, Friday night or Saturday lunch, for $54, or both Friday night and Saturday lunch for $108. You can sponsor the entire shabbos for a couple for $216, a family of five for $540, or all the guests for one seudah for $2,700. You can choose to sponsor the whole Shabbos at one site for $5,400. Each meal includes: pro-rated rent, utilities, all our weekend staff, mashgiach tamidi, food, wine, dishes, supplies and cleanup.

For every donation of $500 or more, we will post your dedication in our dining room over Shabbos. If you wish to sponsor a Shabbos meal on a particular date such as a yartzeit or family celebration, please email [email protected]

There are many meaningful sponsorship options. You can choose to sponsor holiday meals, even select the day and location; or you can choose to sponsor holiday packages with a matching grant, maximizing your charitable impact.
