Brooklyn Org We Spark Change. We partner with local leaders to identify and support proven models and accelerate bold new solutions.

Brooklyn has an unprecedented opportunity to build a sustainable source of support for its communities, led by the ideas and resources of its communities. As a start-up community foundation, we are assembling a community of donors committed to taking on Brooklyn’s challenges today, while fostering a powerful resource for the future. Through our Community Fund, Donor Advised Fund Program, and strategic initiatives, Brooklyn Community Foundation seeks to mobilize people, capital, and expertise for a fair and just Brooklyn. Our unique approach has three components: first, we listen and engage the community; second, we build on what’s working, funding and supporting successful programs; third, we try new things, and when something works, we invest in its continued success.

• Collaborate with local leaders. We work with donors and manage resources to meet critical charitable goals and build a long-term asset base.

• Leverage expertise. We call on a vast network of experts to build on best practices and advance the thinking needed to sustain our work.

Racial justice has been the thread through Dr. Jocelynne Rainey’s entire career.

From human resources and workforce development to philanthropy today, the roles have changed, but the question at the center of her work has stayed remarkably consistent: How do we make sure opportunity, resources, and power reach the communities that have historically been denied them?

That perspective now shapes how Jocelynne leads Brooklyn Org and how we think about philanthropy across the borough: listening to communities, investing in local leadership, and backing the people already building solutions from the ground up.
