CrossRoad

CrossRoad What does it mean to travel the road of the Cross of Christ in your life, for your life?

CrossRoad is a ten-day academic summer institute that prepares high school juniors and seniors to make big life decisions and invites them to connect with the Orthodox Christian theological and spiritual tradition in a deep and meaningful way. CrossRoad offers a space for young people to form authentic and lifelong friendships, ask hard questions, and explore their calling as an Orthodox Christian in the 21st century.

What does it mean to live with the Saints—not simply to admire them from a distance, but to encounter them as living persons in Christ?

Throughout this retreat, we’ll explore the mystery of placing ourselves “in the way” of the Saints: in our prayer, in the places they walked, in our vocations, and in the daily offering of our lives to God. Together, we’ll discover that the Communion of Saints is not an abstract idea, but a living reality that invites us to walk in their company each day.

We are honored to welcome Fr. David Alexander as our 2026 guest speaker. An Antiochian Orthodox archpriest, scholar, and author of Leaping Into the Hands of God, Fr. David brings decades of experience in pastoral care, spiritual formation, and serving those affected by trauma and displacement. His thoughtful teaching will help us deepen our understanding of what it means to live faithfully in communion with Christ and His Saints.

We look forward to gathering together for this inspiring weekend! Read more about our theme and about Father David on the retreat webpage.

CrossRoad New York has been a blast! 👏

With the incredible opportunity to be at St. Vladimir’s Seminary, participants ventured throughout Yonkers – and into the heart of the Big Apple.

Some session highlights: amazing parish visits to St. Nicholas of Myra Carpo-Russian Orthodox Church, St. Mary of Egypt Georgian Orthodox Church, Holy Virgin Protection OCA Cathedral, Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church and St. Nicholas National Shrine in Lower Manhattan!

In the city, participants visited the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese headquarters, Central Park, and took a boat tour around the Statue of Liberty!

Thank you to all the parishes, the GOA, and to SVS leadership and staff for this amazing CrossRoad session! 🎉

Stage 3: Find your neighbor in the stranger.

As human beings, it is easy to judge someone before you know them. So much of our perception of others is based on the tip of the iceberg, rather than what’s really happening below the surface. And oftentimes, people are hindered from loving their neighbor because they don’t love themselves.

As participants close out their CrossRoad journey, they are thinking about how to see the light of Christ in everyone.

Stage 2: When have you felt God’s presence, even without physically seeing him?

Humans are unable to fully know God. Disconnected from Paradise since the Fall, it’s easy to try to fill that void with trusted subjects like science.

Faith and science aren’t meant to be interchangeable. But can they interplay such that we still know God to be truth? Even if we cannot see God with our eyes, we can encounter His grace and love in meaningful moments—even in the stillness of nature.

Stage 1: Each person is unique.

While all are created in the image and likeness of God, we still have a specific set of strengths that make up our character. Those strengths are starting points. They are meant to be built upon and developed.

“Who Am I?” helps guide participants in understanding their unique strengths—and how, through that diversity, they can build unity and learn to navigate the world with purpose.
