Financial support is possible to sponsor eye exams, eyeglasses, hearing aids for individuals in need.

Brookings, SD KidSight - annually doing vision screening for 1,000 local kids; supporting Lions Park at 1st st & Medary Ave; promoting good citizenship among Middle School students; and much more. OUR MOTTO: WE SERVE
The mission of the Lions organization is to empower clubs, volunteers, an partner to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, an support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding. HOW WE DO IT:
*Club networking luncheon with an educational presentation on the 1t and 3rd Mondays of each month
*Periodic social events just for fund
*Raising community awareness through a spaghetti feed & pie auction, SDSU ice cream booth at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival and ushering at SDSU basketball games. VISION & HEARINGS:
*KidsSight vision screening & screening support for children: www.lionskidsightusa.org/
*Collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids for redistribution to third world countries. YOUTH:
*Once each quarter recognize Middle School Student for their outstanding citizenship
HUNGER:
*Support the SDSU food Fight during the Summit League
ENVIRONMENT:
Established green space & we continue to support Our Lions Park at 1st Street and Medary Avenue
Road ditch clean-up for a section of highway 14

Another Hobo Day parade with the Lions KidSight program on display to thousands of spectators … and some grateful kids getting sweet treats from members of the Brookings Lions Club. The club continues to celebrate its 75th year serving the Brookings community. It’s a great way to serve others while having fun with some terrific people … and an occasional roaring beast!

On October 5, 2026 Lions 5SE District Governor Jackie Cerkowniak attended a meeting of the Brookings Lions Club to present a series of special awards to club members for their service to the community.
• Ron Seeley – Certificate of Recognition & Accomplishment for his yrs of organizing vision screening in the area.
• Ron Gelderman – Certificate of Recognition & Accomplishment for his yrs of chairing the ice cream booth fund raiser at the Brookings Arts Festival.
• Bob Bell – Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship for yrs of serving as club secretary and on district committees.
• Mike Sprenger – 45 yrs as a Lions member.
• Paul Fixen – 35 yrs as a Lions member and 6 yrs as Zone 4 Chair.
• Carl Van Voorst – 25 yrs as a lions member.

Lions of South Dakota just celebrated their past year of service at their 2026 State Convention in Rapid City on Oct 2-3. Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun opened the meeting and reminded us that “Gratitude is the source of joy in life”. The Brookings Cub attendees, Eldena Hanson-Russell, Carl Van Voorst, and Paul Fixen went home feeling grateful for the amazing opportunities for service that Lions provides its members and delivers to communities throughout South Dakota.

📅 Dropoff Location: Share the Warmth trailer in the First Bank & Trust parking lot

We’re collecting NEW OR GENTLY USED winter clothing. Coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, scarves, and boots!

Last year, over 1,000 coats were given away in ONE DAY. 😲 And every year, one of our biggest needs is adult-sized coats.

Have coats hanging in the back of your closet? Kids outgrew their winter gear? Found a great deal on new clothing? This is your chance to pass it on!

Ice cream at the 2026 Brookings Arts Festival – more than just a refreshing treat!

Thanks to all who joined us to enjoy SDSU ice cream this year. Your purchase helped support student vision screening, eye glasses and hearing aids for the needy, good citizenship promotion, hunger alleviation, Lions Park, and numerous other community service projects. As Lions – we serve, but we could not do so without your support. See you again next year!
