Brookings Public Library needs your support.

The Brookings County Commission is considering a change in how the county supports library access for residents who live outside Brookings city limits. The proposed voucher system would require individuals to pay for their library card up front and then seek reimbursement from the county.

The Friends of the Brookings Public Library oppose this change. We believe it creates an unnecessary barrier to a public resource that serves people throughout Brookings County.

If you agree, we encourage you to make your voice heard. Attend the Brookings County Commission meeting on Tuesday, August 18 at 8:30 a.m. on the third floor of the City & County Building. Arrive early to sign up for public comment.

If you’re unable to attend, contact your county commissioners and let them know you oppose the voucher system and support continued library access for residents throughout Brookings County.

Our library serves our community far beyond the city limits. Help us keep library access free and accessible for all of Brookings County.

Some of the new additions purchased from our $20,000 donation in April have recently hit the Brookings Public Library floor and shelves:

• A new rug for the junior area
• Rocker chairs for kids
• Rolling storage cabinets
• New bookends
• And other helpful updates throughout the library

Proceeds from sales go to the Friends of the Brookings Public Library in support of the Brookings Public Library.

With $7,400 raised at the spring book sale, combined with additional donations from the past few months, we’re happy to share that the Friends of the Library were able to contribute over $20,000 back to the Brookings Public Library!

The library provided a list of current needs, and we were able to support programming and the purchase of new tables, bookends, technology like launch pads, and more.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and attended the sale. Your support continues to make a meaningful difference for our library and the community it serves.

Thank you for coming out and supporting our Spring Book Sale! We hope you found some great new reads to enjoy.

The perfect way to end the spring book sale is our Sunday Special. From 1p-3p stuff as many items in a regular grocery bag for $3.
If you're up to moving a few boxes and tables, we'd love to have you join us for pick up from about 3-4:30p.

There aren't many book to movie adaptations which live up to our expectations. The Outsiders is probably my favorite and gold standard.
