Centers for Housing Opportunity

Centers for Housing Opportunity The Center for Housing Opportunity works to produce and preserve housing for people of all incomes and walks of life in western Connecticut.

The Centers for Housing Opportunity are strategic partnerships responding to housing affordability in Fairfield County, Litchfield County, and Eastern Connecticut. The Center is home to Fairfield County's Center for Housing Opportunity (FCCHO) and Litchfield County's Center for Housing Opportunity (LCCHO). CHO believes that equitable access to safe, affordable, and healthy housing is the foundatio

n of a thriving community. Utilizing a collaborative, data-driven, and regional approach, the Center for Housing Opportunity strives to reduce the cost burdens which too many households - owners and renters - face in our region. The Center adopts a collective impact model that strategically aligns many organizations from multiple sectors to advance social change.

Our team in Eastern Connecticut is lucky to host interns from the Connecticut College Summer Civic Leaders Program, where undergraduate students work with community partners in New London, to address local social issues.

Last week, our interns joined our team, the Connecticut Tenants Union, and the Redding Avenue Tenant Union at housing court to support a local tenant union member who is fighting for fair rent and fair housing conditions.

Our team at the Center for Housing Opportunity Eastern Connecticut was grateful to participate in the Walk to End Homelessness in New London sponsored by the New London Homeless Hospitality Center.

Thanks to everyone who came out for this critical cause, and thanks to our interns from the Holleran Center for Community Action for holding down our table!

Homelessness and housing instability are a choice we make as a society, and we can end these conditions if we make different choices and invest in housing and supportive services.

We're thrilled to see the Office of Governor Ned Lamont come out in support of Just Cause Eviction protections. Now it's up to the Senate and House to pass it. Let's get it done!

Gov. Ned Lamont has previously stayed out of the debate on the issue of eviction reform, which has come up the past few legislative sessions.

Do you want to be more involved with housing, community development, land use, and the other issues that deeply impact your community? Consider joining the Housing and Community Development Leadership Institute in Bridgeport this Spring, hosted by our friends at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) CT.

The Housing and Community Development Leadership Institute (HCDLI) is building a cohort of emerging leaders in the field for a program that begins in for the Bridgeport in a few weeks. The workshops and trainings (mostly in-person) focus on building a foundation for the affordable housing and community development sector.

We're excited to welcome our friend Jennifer Paradis to Eastern Connecticut State University for our next Housing Justice conversation focused on how people can advocate for the housing solutions we need.
