Nicole Sullivan, Tau Delta (Birmingham-Southern College), a Network Specialist-ME for Network 7 and a member of the AOII Atlanta Alumnae Chapter, knows firsthand the impact of the AOII Foundation. As a collegiate member, Nicole was fortunate to receive an AOII Foundation scholarship, an experience that stayed with her long after graduation.

Through her roles as an NSME, former chapter advisor for Tau Delta Chapter, and local alumnae volunteer, she has seen the Foundation’s impact come full circle. She has watched sisters receive scholarships that helped ease financial burdens, seen Leadership Academy grants help chapters provide valuable leadership opportunities, and heard from alumnae whose lives were profoundly impacted by Ruby Fund grants following unforeseen tragedies and natural disasters. For Nicole, supporting the Foundation is about paying forward the support she once received.

“Knowing how much being awarded a scholarship from an AOII meant to me, I want to help other collegians be able to have the same experience.”

When asked what she would say to someone considering supporting the Foundation, Nicole’s answer is simple: give what you can. Whether that means a financial gift or giving your time through volunteering, every contribution can make a difference in the life of a sister.

Carsen Clark, Lambda Sigma (U of Georgia), is one of this year's Diamond Jubilee Scholarship recipients, an honor awarded to sisters who exemplify academic excellence and a deep commitment to serving their communities and Alpha Omicron Pi.

She shared, "The AOII Foundation scholarship will allow me to continue my education in nursing in order to provide the best level of care to those who need it most. I am grateful to the donors who felt it in their hearts to give to women to help them on their journey to successful, impactful lives that exemplify the qualities AOII has built up and encouraged in them."

As she continues her nursing education, the leadership, service, and compassion she has cultivated through AOII will help shape the exceptional nurse she aspires to be.

"From AOII, I have learned the value of leadership and service, and I know these characteristics will help me be the best nurse I can be. I am humbled to have received this scholarship and to go on to the next chapter of my education supported by the women who went before me."

Marji Stevens, Beta Kappa (U of British Columbia), is a member of the AOII Foundation’s Keystone Society, remembering the Foundation in her estate planning. For Marji, the value of service has always been deeply rooted in her family and her experience as an AOII.

During her collegiate years, Marji saw sisters in her chapter receive Foundation scholarships and witnessed firsthand how meaningful that support could be. As she learned more about the Foundation’s work, she became especially connected to the Ruby Fund and the educational and leadership opportunities made possible through Foundation support.

As a Foundation Ambassador with the Alpha Omicron Pi - Calgary Alumnae Chapter, Marji had the opportunity to share the story of how the Ruby Fund began, a story that deeply moved her and strengthened her belief in stepping forward to help sisters in need.

"For over half a century, Alpha Omicron Pi has played an important role in my life, and it is appropriate to honor that importance."

As she considered her legacy, she knew she wanted her final gifts to support organizations she believes deeply in. With no children, Marji has chosen to include the AOII Foundation as a beneficiary of her estate, ensuring her support can continue helping sisters throughout their collegiate and alumnae lives. We're so excited that 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of our beloved Ruby Fund!! ❤️🌹
Known as the heart of AOII, the Ruby Fund provides emergency financial assistance to sisters facing some of life's most difficult circumstances.

Whether due to illness, natural disaster, loss of income, or other unexpected events, the Ruby Fund has been there for nearly a century, providing over $750,000 in support to sisters.

"Receiving the Mary Matarazzo Bryant Scholarship means so much to me. As a student pursuing a master's degree in agriculture, every scholarship makes a meaningful difference in helping me achieve my educational and career goals."

For Wendy Burnley, Delta Omega (Murray State U), receiving an AOII Foundation scholarship is more than financial support—it is an investment in her future. By helping ease the cost of tuition, books, and other educational expenses, the Mary Matarazzo Bryant Scholarship allows her to focus on her studies, research, and leadership opportunities while preparing to make a lasting impact in agriculture and her community.

Kay Lockridge, Omega (Miami U), is a member of the AOII Foundation’s Keystone Society, remembering the Foundation in her estate planning. She is currently an active member of the Central New Mexico Alumnae Chapter.

Kay had a very good example in her mother, Mary Kay (Geake) Lockridge, who was initiated into Beta Phi (Indiana U) and was an active alumna in every city she lived in. Like her mother, Kay has been a member of an AOII alumnae chapter everywhere she’s lived - Buffalo, Albany, East Lansing, New York City, and Santa Fe.

Her mother believed that although sorority membership was not required to succeed in college, it was the best pathway through life, and that AOII was the ideal organization. Kay remembers being told she did not have to join any sorority, but she did have to choose a college with an AOII chapter if her parents were to pay her tuition. Ultimately, she chose Miami of Ohio and was initiated into our Omega chapter in Spring 1958. Her mother attended and told Kay it was one of the happiest days of her life.

Kay believes that if an organization has been valuable to you, it deserves your support whether physically (e.g. showing up) or financially, depending on your resources at any given time in life.

Kay believes our Foundation is valuable to oneself, others, and the fraternal world in general which is why she has chosen to include the AOII Foundation as a beneficiary of her estate. 🌹

"These scholarships don't just pay tuition; they open doors, reduce barriers, and empower women like me to pursue all of our ambitious goals. My hope is that one day I can pay this generosity forward, so other women feel as seen, supported, and inspired as I do today. That cycle of sisterhood, of women lifting women, is what keeps AOII's legacy thriving generation after generation."

Congratulations to our Helen Haller Scholarship recipient, Michaela Rader, Gamma Delta (U of South Alabama)! We are incredibly proud to recognize her dedication to academic excellence, lifelong service, and unwavering commitment to Alpha Omicron Pi.

From earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees to now pursuing a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development—all while working full-time, teaching, and mentoring students—she embodies the spirit of leadership, perseverance, and sisterhood.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that Foundation scholarships do more than provide financial support—they help remarkable women pursue their dreams and create an even greater impact in their communities.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor! We can't wait to see all you accomplish as you continue to inspire and uplift others.

August is Make a Will Month - Did you know if you include AOII in your future plans, you might be eligible to be a member of the Keystone Society?

In the last fiscal year, seven sisters joined this group by letting the Foundation know they had designated AOII as the beneficiary of an insurance policy, IRA, or other planned gifts in their will.

Planned gifts are charitable contributions that are part of a donor’s financial or estate plans, typically given to nonprofits once the donor passes away.
