This has been a difficult year for motorcycle fatalities. Last year at this time, there were 13 recorded motorcycle fatalities. This riding season, Minnesota has experienced 32 motorcycle fatalities. All of us have a part to play in reducing this number. Riders must ride cautiously and defensively, anticipating other drivers may not see their bike. Always wearing proper safety apparel will put the odds in your favor as well. Drivers of the 4 wheeled variety need to be expecting motorcycles on the road being watchful for motorcycles at intersections, when changing lanes, and in traffic. Together, we can make the road safer for everyone.

A heartbreaking tragedy … hope, hope all are on their way to recovery.
Safety counts not only on our roadways … wear the gear, belt up, slow down … have fun but play it safe!

AAA's "E-Ride Ready" campaign aims to help parents better understand the risks associated with e-bikes and e-scooters and take steps to prevent serious injuries.
Families should review their state and local laws before allowing children or teens to ride and identify safe riding locations.

Minnesota law at a glance:
- Riders under 18 must wear helmets.
- Riders must be 15 to ride a Class 3 e-bike.
- E-bikes are permitted on state trails where bicyles are allowed.
- Sidewalk riding is restricted in business districts unless locally allowed.
- Minnesota does not currently have a statewide bicycle/e-bike helmet law.
