The Prayer Quilt Ministry was started in 2009 by Rita Tasche. The quilts are hand cut, machine sewn and hand-tied with a prayer said for the recipient with each knot as it is tied. It takes several volunteers to make one quilt. There are people who cut the materials, match and sew strips, quilt tops together and the volunteers who pray while tying each knot.

The ministry has made more than 1,400 quilts and has delivered them to people all over the United States. The quilts are made from donated fabric and thread. Monetary donations are also received and go toward the cost of batting and postage to mail the quilts.

There are currently more than 20 volunteers who meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays on the third floor of The Center in Brainerd.
