The Montana Afterschool Alliance (MTAA) serves as the champion for afterschool programming and extend

MTAA’s vision is that all Montana youth have access to enriching afterschool activities in a safe and healthy environment. MTAA seeks to advocate for sustainable, high quality afterschool programs by convening families, afterschool providers, schools, business leaders, elected officials, key community stakeholders, and public education agencies committed to improving outcomes for youth and their families. School Services of Montana serves as the fiscal agent for MTAA.

Why should teens consider joining the 2027 STEM Next Flight Crew?

Flight Crew members build leadership, communication, and advocacy skills while connecting with other young people who are passionate about STEM. They represent their states, explore STEM careers, participate in unique virtual and in-person experiences, and share their STEM stories on regional and national stages.

Past Flight Crew members have spoken at events held by NASA, the National STEM Festival, SXSW EDU, NASEM, and more.

Meta has agreed to pay over $17 billion dollars to 47 states to settle claims that they misled the public about their platform's safety, and exposed young people to serious mental health harms.

That means that right now, all across the country, states are making key decisions about what to do with these record-breaking funds.

The settlement names afterschool programs as one of the recommended uses to repair harm, and we obviously agree. Afterschool and summer programs offer a perfect antidote to social media harms, providing kids with a safe place to connect, explore, and grow.

As a founding member of the Fund IRL coalition, we’re working to ensure that these funds are going toward on-the-ground programs and organizations that support the mental health, safety, well-being, and positive development of young people. We urge state officials to seize this opportunity to make a big investment in the health and safety of millions of young people.
