marks the day freedom reached those who had long been denied it and reminds us how far we still must go. We are reminded that progress is not inevitable; it is achieved through courage, persistence, and collective action.

This holiday marks a pivotal moment in American history, and it also invites us to consider how freedom, opportunity, and belonging continue to be experienced differently across communities.

As an organization dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women, YW Boston honors Juneteenth by celebrating Black leadership, acknowledging the unfinished work of equity, and recommitting to the systemic change needed to ensure all people can thrive.

On Thursday, June 4, over 380 attendees gathered at The Westin Copley Place for YW Boston’s 31st Academy of Women Achievers luncheon. We were honored to recognize Lauren Cook, Nathalie Gauthier, Sandra McCroom, Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernández, and Shavel’le Olivier, all of whom exemplify leadership and are creating change in our city. Their inspiring stories and unwavering commitment to equity filled the room with energy and hope.

A special thank you to Latoyia Edwards, for emceeing the event, and to all of those who made this event possible. Because of the unwavering support and generosity of our sponsors and esteemed guests, we raised over $250,000 to fund our transformative work.
While the luncheon may be over, the impact continues. If you weren't able to be in the room with us, there is still time to make a gift and support YW Boston's mission at www.ywboston.org/donate.

Thank you!

The Academy of Women Achievers celebration is only three weeks away! Don’t miss the opportunity to honor Shavel’le Olivier, our Sylvia Ferrell-Jones Awardee, on June 4.

The Sylvia Ferrell-Jones Award honors a young professional woman of color who exemplifies leadership while advancing YW Boston’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.

Shavel’le Olivier is an advocate for positive change who creates and implements visions that strengthen communities. She is deeply committed to the neighborhoods where she lives, works, and travels, with passions in youth development, community leadership, and a people-centered approach to transportation. Her notable contributions are focused on the transportation passions of her work including founding Mattapan on Wheels, a major biking event that promotes safer infrastructure, cultivates youth leadership, and elevates cycling culture in Mattapan. She also co-founded Transportation Talks in 2020 to bring residents of Mattapan, Dorchester, Roxbury, and BIPOC communities together to explore how transportation shapes quality of life.
