The month of June is National Reunification Month, and while reunification is a top priority in foster care, it is full of nuance.

In some cases, the best decision for a child is for them to not be reunified with their birth family. So, what happens if we can't support reunification? What then?

Prayer.

As believers in Jesus, we believe in the power of prayer. We can cover our children with prayer, their families of origin with prayer, and all who are working in the foster care system with prayer.

June is National Reunification Month, but what does reunification actually mean? And why does it matter?

Reunification, or a child returning to the care of their family of origin, is the ultimate goal of foster care when it is safe to do so.

The purpose of foster care is provide parents and children with the support they need to thrive as a family. This month, we celebrate parents who have broken cycles and worked hard because of the love they have for their children.

Why should this month matter to you?

Because families are worth fighting for and redemption is possible.

James 1:27 puts it like this: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

What does it mean to "be the Church?"

Take care of the most vulnerable in our communities.

Foster care is living out James 1:27 by providing safety, stability, and love to children walking through uncertainty.

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
