Nepal Update 🙏🇳🇵

The below is from our dear friend and teammate Roshani in Nepal whom many of our community have had the privilege to know personally.

"Our WTW Nepal team is safe and accounted for. However, some team members are currently unable to reach family members, relatives and people close to them in the affected areas.
Please keep our colleagues, their families, and everyone affected by this devastating event in your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to share updates as more verified information becomes available."

We will keep y'all posted as details emerge on the devastation as well as our response to help love and serve the people most affected by this tragedy.

Thank y'all so much for all your love and prayers ❤️

Wanted to share with the WTW community an update directly from our Colombia Country Director, Claudia, regarding today's earthquake:

"Hi everyone, just a quick update to let you know that I’m okay, my family is okay, and all of the WTW staff are safe as well.

The earthquake was magnitude 7.4, with an approximate depth of 88 kilometers. It was an extremely strong earthquake and one of the strongest Colombia has experienced in recent years. We are currently waiting for the official assessment from the Colombian government regarding the cities and areas most affected by the earthquake.

So far, we know that there has been significant damage in several areas. Cali and other cities in the Valle del Cauca region have reported serious structural damage and collapsed buildings, with people trapped in some areas. There have also been significant impacts reported in the Manizales and Pereira areas, including damage to airport infrastructure.

My house sustained some minor cracks, and a couple of schools in Bogotá have also reported cracks. Fortunately, Bogotá appears to have been one of the least affected areas overall. The earthquake was also strongly felt in Meta, Cundinamarca, Antioquia, and other parts of the country. The most significant impacts appear to be concentrated from the Meta region toward the Pacific coast. We have not received reports of significant impacts in Amazonas so far.

The situation is still developing, and authorities are continuing to assess the damage. We are waiting for the official reports so we can have a clearer picture of which areas may need emergency assistance and where WTW could potentially support.

For now, the most important thing is that our families and the entire WTW team are safe. I’ll keep you updated as we receive more information."

Please keep our team and the people of Colombia in your prayers.

Update from Shannon M. Lambert, Vice President of Development:

Thank you all so much for your support; what a blessing it has been! We received an overwhelming response to our last outreach and it's working—we are a little over halfway to our goal of getting 10,000 water filters to Venezuela! 6,500 DROP Filters® have landed in-country and are making their way to the most hard hit areas as we speak.

It's been so special to see all the ways our community is coming together for this cause. Last week I had so much fun volunteering in the Wine To Water warehouse building filters in honor of Doc's mother's birthday, a request she shared with family and friends in lieu of birthday gifts. If you're near Boone, please stop by and join us. And if not, we can send a DIY Filter Build Kit right to your doorstep so we can build filters together in spirit! Just drop a comment below or send us a message and we'll make it happen.

My favorite component of the Filter Build Kit is the notecard. Each participant has an opportunity to write a message to the person who will receive the filter. These notecards offer words of empathy, care, and hope for families in the midst of instability and uncertainty. And, while a DROP Filter sponsorship is only $65, this tangible piece of love coupled with lifesaving technology is priceless for the person on the other end, like Raymar from Venezuela (pictured below).

Won't you share some love today? give.wtw.org/venezuela

Most sincerely,
Shannon

Message from Doc:

Hey y'all, I haven't sent a request like this out in a long time, but I'm just not sure what else to do at this point. Our water filter inventory is extremely low. We were hoping to build our numbers back up before this year's hurricane season hit, but now we need to make and send as many filters as we can to Venezuela for the survivors of the earthquake. The crisis there has been devastating for millions of families.

Wine To Water began making its own water filters 2 years ago just before Helene hit WNC. Our hope was to build enough inventory to have on hand for any disasters that hit, as well as have enough for our ongoing programs, but it seems like there has been one major disaster after another (Helene, Jamaica Hurricane last year, and now the Venezuela Earthquakes). We just haven't been able to keep up.

Would you consider sponsoring a filter, or a number of filters, so we can send as many as possible to Venezuela? And most importantly, will y'all please pray for safety for our team as they are down in Venezuela now trying to help these hurting families that have lost everything. Sponsor a filter here: give.wtw.org/venezuela $65 sponsors one filter which will last a minimum of 10 years for a family.

PS. If you, your family, church or company would like to host a WTW Filter Build® Event, please comment below or send us a message. It's another great and fun way to build our filter inventory.

Thank y'all so much,
Doc

Venezuela Update: Wine To Water DROP Filters® are actively being deployed in a temporary housing camp in La Guaira, Venezuela to families that lost their homes. Our hearts are broken for these people, but we're so thankful we can help get them the life saving water they need right now. Many thanks to our partners at IsraAID for helping to distribute our filters.

Please keep the people of Venezuela in your thoughts and prayers as they cope with the damage and losses from the recent back-to-back 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes. Wine To Water US and Colombia staff are preparing to deploy as we speak and we'll have more updates for you once we have boots on the ground.

Working across teams, locations and time zones is part of our everyday reality at Lufthansa Systems. 🌍  Recently, colleagues from Frankfurt, Zurich, Gdansk, New Jersey and Bengaluru came together virtually for a cross-location get-together centered around collaboration and shared purpose. Over the past year, teams across our global locations shared inspiring collaboration stories as part of the People OKR and an internal initiative focused on teamwork beyond borders & functions. Four teams especially stood out with their collaborative approaches.

A special part of the late afternoon was a joint activity with the NGO Wine To Water, which supports communities worldwide with access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. Connected virtually across locations, colleagues built water filters together that will support communities with limited access to clean drinking water. 💧 The exchange showed once again that collaboration is strongest when people work towards a common goal. 🤝 Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to this meaningful cross-location exchange.

A healthy planet means a brighter future for the next generation. With access to clean water, children can grow, learn, and build the lives ahead of them.

This Earth Day, we’re focused on what comes next: reaching 10 million people with safe, reliable water to support children and communities for years to come.
